Comic books are among the rare books of the future. In fact, some comic books are scarcer and more valuable than many of the “old books” that fill special collections stacks. This essay proposes to answer the questions of “What do we do with comics in an academic library?” by analyzing comics as a popular phenomenon that is deeply rooted in book history and the developing print culture of the past 100 years. A familiar staple of entertainment for a wide variety of readers, the comic book has not always held a regular place in the academic library. Concerning themselves with collecting more traditional expressions of scholarship, libraries have not historically dedicated much of their acquisitions budgets to this area. Therefore, the comic book or graphic novel was largely relegated to someone’s personal collection and would more likely be found on the shelves of a comic book store than the shelves of a university library.

The American scientist Carl Sagan once said: “You have to know the past to understand the present.” We argue that having a meaningful dialogue on the future of simulation requires a baseline understanding of previous discussions on its future. For this paper, we conduct a review of the discrete event simulation (DES) literature that focuses on its future to understand better the path that DES has been following, both in terms of who is using simulation and what directions they think DES should take. Informational flow is paramount to the success of interpersonal communication as well as macro communication that allows for people to engage with the overarching sociopolitical apparatuses as a citizen. Chief among hindering informational flow are the obstacles of mis/disinformation. This research project is an exploratory study into the attitudinal positioning of a wide range of WPAs across R1 research institutions. Results found that WPA's perceptions are positively aligned in agreement with the value of IL and ML. การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสำรวจหนังสือหายากในคอลเล็กชันหนังสือส่วนตัวของพระยาอนุมานราชธนภายในหอสมุดแห่งชาติด้านจำนวนตัวเล่ม ข้อมูลทางบรรณานุกรม ลักษณะทางกายภาพ และประวัติการครอบครอง รวมทั้งลักษณะสภาพการชำรุดวิธีการวิจัยเป็นการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจ ใช้วิธีวิจัย 2 วิธีในการเก็บข้อมูล ได้แก่ การสัมภาษณ์เบื้องต้น (Preliminary interview) เพื่อให้ทราบข้อมูลที่เกี่ยวข้องกับห้องสมุดอนุมานราชธนในช่วงเวลาที่ผ่านมา จากนั้นจึงดำเนินการสำรวจ ซึ่งผู้วิจัยแบ่งขั้นตอนการสำรวจออกเป็น 2 ครั้ง ได้แก่ การสำรวจเบื้องต้น (Pilot survey) และการสำรวจแบบเต็มรูปแบบ (Full survey) โดยใช้แบบฟอร์มการบันทึกข้อมูลเป็นเครื่องมือวิจัยในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับคอลเล็กชันหนังสือส่วนตัวของพระยาอนุมานราชธนผลการวิจัยพบว่า จำนวนตัวเล่มของหนังสือหายากในคอลเล็กชันหนังสือส่วนตัวของพระยาอนุมานราชธนมีจำนวน 1,226 เล่ม โดยมีจำนวนหนังสือที่ไม่เคยลงรายการบรรณานุกรมในฐานข้อมูลห้องสมุดอัตโนมัติ Aleph จำนวน 215 เล่ม มีลักษณะทางกายภาพส่วนมากไม่มีภาพประกอบหน้าปก และภาพประกอบในเล่มเป็นภาพชีวประวัติบุคคล จำนวนหน้าที่พบโดยส่วนมากคือ 100 หน้าขึ้นไป และขนาดหนังสือเมื่อวัดตามความยาวที่พบมากที่สุด คือ 23 เซนติเมตร ส่วนขนาดที่เหมาะสมของกระดาษไร้กรดต่อขนาดหนังสือ คือ A4 (23*29.2) ส่วนประวัติการครอบครองที่พบสามารถแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ประเภท คือ การแสดงความครอบครองโดยบุคคล และการแสดงความเป็นเจ้าของหรือกรรมสิทธิ์โดยห้องสมุด โดยลักษณะการแสดงความครอบครองโดยบุคคลที่พบมากที่สุดคือ หนังสือฉบับที่ผู้แต่งหรือเจ้าของเดิมลงชื่อกำกับไว้ และลักษณะการแสดงความเป็นเจ้าของหรือกรรมสิทธิ์โดยห้องสมุดที่พบมากที่สุด คือ การประทับตราที่หน้าหลังปกใน และเป็นลักษณะตราประทับแบบที่ต้องกรอกข้อความ สำหรับลักษณะการชำรุดที่พบมากที่สุดของคอลเล็กชันนี้ คือ มีร่องรอยการกัดกินของสัตว์และแมลง

Indigenous Peoples' right to sovereignty forms the foundation for advocacy and actions toward greater Indigenous self-determination and control across a range of domains that impact Indigenous Peoples' communities and cultures. Declarations for sovereignty are rising throughout Indigenous communities and across diverse fields, including Network Sovereignty, Food Sovereignty, Energy Sovereignty, and Data Sovereignty. Indigenous Research Sovereignty draws in the sovereignty discourse of these initiatives to consider their applications to the broader research ecosystem. This case study describes the context which galvanized our Collection Management unit at UCLA Library Special Collections to collectively craft a descriptive practices statement within a study group focused on an anti-oppressive approach to discovery and access. This paper discusses the planning and design of the study group, our direct engagement at meetings, collaborative iteration, and liberatory pedagogical strategies that enabled the statement’s publication, and its impact within our department, library, and beyond. This work speaks to radical descriptive change and provides a potential path for the development of ethical and inclusive descriptive practices at other institutions.

This article discusses documents, knowledge, and truth through a conceptual examination and through an examination of Flaubert's 19th century novel Madame Bovary. It argues that the main characters of Madame Bovary deceive themselves by believing that the contents of the fictional and medical texts they read convey truth. In contrast, the article argues that modern knowledge is constituted by documentary evidence operating in knowledge networks and processes where the result of such operations is what can be claimed to be true about the world through such processes. This paper playfully appropriates the metaphor of delusional states to frame a discussion of hyperreal documents present in Disney theme parks and resorts. A brief overview of the literature on delusion in individuals transitions into the collective formation of positive illusions to introduce the concept of play. The Boredonomicon is the Infinite Word of the God of Boredom, produced through a spiritual practice by the monks of the Tedia. Inspiration was drawn from philosophical work on boredom as well as questions of document theory and genre theory.

In the age of climate change, the Indian writer Amitav Ghosh asks whether humanity is prepared for the unthinkable nature of climate events. The Earth’s climate is changing faster than humans can expect and adapt. Ghosh warns that modern people are too deranged to imagine in what forms of changes are approaching. His term, derangement, suggests that humans are no longer able to imagine the future world shaped by climate change.
