The University Archives has become an integral part of an academic institution. It has met its role as the repository for the rich history of an institution. Open Access: A Model For Sharing Published Conservation Research, Peter D. Verheyen, Priscilla Anderson, Whitney Baker, Beth Doyle

The conservation field has articulated the importance of publishing our research to disseminate information and further the aims of conservation. Article X of AIC’s Code of Ethics states that conservators should “contribute to the evolution and growth of the profession, a field of study that encompasses the liberal arts and the natural sciences” in part by “sharing of information and experience with colleagues, adding to the profession’s written body of knowledge.” Our Guidelines for Practice state “the conservation professional should recognize the importance of published information that has undergone formal peer review,” because, as Commentary 2.1 indicates, “publication in peer-reviewed …

Working Methods: The Howard D. Beach Photography Studio Of Gelatin Dry Plate Negatives, Noelle Wiedemer

In the spring of 2011, the Buffalo History Museum (BHM) received a donation of over 57,000 gelatin dry plate glass negatives from the Howard D. Beach Photography Studio located in Buffalo, New York and in operation in various manifestations from 1896 to 1954. Beach was a prominent portrait photographer of notable Buffalonians, including Darwin D. Martin, Ansley Wilcox, Katherine Cornell, Margaret Wendt, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

This paper serves to explore the results of the pilot study of various physical and chemical properties of the gelatin dry plate negatives in order to understand Beach’s photographic working methods and compare them …

This presentation will explore methods of creating and displaying 3D images in relation to Content Management Systems and online collections. Examining the creation of 3D models through various platforms, we will discuss the interaction and feasibility for implementation of several common 3D formats.

The online display of 3D models has been in use for several years, most notably in archaeological reconstruction projects and more recently in digital imaging within the field of medical science. Ballard—a former member of the Fisher & Sauls law firm—deposited a collection of personal correspondence and other documents related to the management and operation of the Times Publishing Company with Special Collections and University Archives, Nelson Poynter Memorial Library. Earl Weir, a longtime St. Petersburg resident who now lives outside of the area, originally donated materials related to his family’s history and the Tampa Bay region in 2012. Many items from the original accession were digitized versions of home movies, and they were received in multiple installments. Some artifacts were also included in the original accession, such as an electric clock from Webb’s City, a longtime department store located in St. Petersburg. The purpose of this study is to compare the religious non-fiction collection of a public library (Natchitoches Parish Library) with the religious non-fiction collection of a Christian church library (First Baptist Church, Natchitoches) focusing on those books classified in the 200s of the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Young adults can be one of the hardest demographics to get to participate in library programs in substantial numbers. Young adults, or teenagers in the 7-12 grades, tend to have busy schedules and may not have time to come to long, drawn out programs. However, just because young adults do not seem to have time to attend extensive programs does not mean they do not have time for the library. Passive programming or independent programming can draw young adults into the library and get them active in the young adult section.

The Deiro Collection at the City University of New York Graduate Center's Mina Rees Library is an archival collection of materials related to the professional and personal lives of Guido Deiro (1886-1950), Pietro Deiro Sr. (1888-1954) and Pietro “Lee” Deiro Jr. (1913-1999).

Immigrating from Italy to the United States in the early 1900's, the Deiro brothers Guido and Pietro, made enduring contributions to the popularization of the Piano Accordion in the 20th Century.
