Rhetorical Knowledge in Legal Practice and Critical Legal Theory has just been published by the University of Alabama Press as part of its series, Rhetoric, Culture and Social Critique. My central themes are that rhetorical knowledge - however imperfectly pursued and attained - is a feature of social life; that rhetorical knowledge plays an important role in legal practice; and that legal critique is appropriately grounded by the normative injunction to maximize the generation of and reliance on rhetorical knowledge in the administration of justice by legal actors. This study examined kindergarten children's (N=18) eyewitness reports and the effects of suggestive questioning. Five- and six year- olds were interviewed repeatedly after a visitor came to their classroom in one of the following conditions: (a) suggestion, which received misleading suggestive questioning one time per week for three consecutive weeks following the incident, and a final 2 interview fifteen weeks after the incident; (b) increased suggestion, which received false suggestive interviews one time per week for three consecutive weeks following the event, and a final interview fifteen weeks after the initial event; and (c) triple suggestion, which received misleading suggestive …

In this article, I accept and hope to expand upon the conventional consensus view that The Path of the Law is a brief for an Americanized version of Austinian legal positivism and for the "separation" of law and morality that is at its core. The parental configuration of families has become a topic of increasing interest in the latter part of the twentieth century. Examination of divorce rates reveal that the structure of the family is ever-changing. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between self-esteem and criminal offenders and how the structure of one's parental influence effects criminal activity. The types of parental configurations used within this study are as follows: Mother, Father, Mother and Father, or Biological Parent and Stepparent. A Comparison Of Adolescent Drug Use Between Urban And Rural Populations, Randall G. Rhodes

Prior research has found extensive levels of drug use among the adolescent population from standard metropolitan statistical areas. The reviestudies show high drug use rates in the urban minority population, particularly in regards to cocaine use. Also, arrestee data examining law violations compared to drug usage and the age of initial usage correlates to the onset of delinquent behavior in the juvenile population. There are relatively few studies that have examined rural populations in regards to drug usage rates in comparison to urban populations. In recent years, crime and public housing have been closely linked in our political and popular cultures. Tragic episodes of violence have reinforced the notion that public housing is a milieu with rates of victimization and offending far greater than other locales. However, these recent developments belie the complex social and political evolution of public housing from its origins in the 1930s, through urban renewal, and into the present.

Stereotypes abound about public housing, its management, residents, and crime rates. In reality, variation is the norm, and it is these variations that affect crime. The study of crime in public …

Occasionally I encounter among students the suspicion that law is nothing but politics. In the field in which I teach-employment law-this attitude amounts to the cynical belief that if judges (or at least those judges hostile to workers) can possibly find a way for the employee to lose and the employer to win, they will do so. While I must admit my own misgivings about the extent to which doctrine and precedent actually decide cases, I push these students to try to understand case outcomes as something other than pure politics.
