While the institutional infrastructure to coordinate climate change policy in Thailand alreadyexists, previous studies have identified an important gap in this infrastructure. An institutional arrangement/coordinating mechanism is needed to oversee coordination of resource allocation and utilization among government agenciesin order to achieve the national goal of a low carbon and resilient society. This paper reviews current policies and institutions related to climate changeand recommends a new Sub-committee on Climate Finance be established under the National Climate Change Committee (NCCC). The objective of this study is to explore the potential of producing energy from open-dump solidwaste from Rajamangala University of Technology Isan Surin Campus. Heating value as well as thephysical and chemical compositions were analyzed. The composition and heating value were comparedto refuse-derived fuel quality standard. All waste samples were separated into combustible and non-com-bustible matter. Paper, plastic, food residue, textiles, rubber and leather were classified as combustible. The study aimed to investigate residual cyanides and their potential stabilities in tailings from a gold processing plant deposited in the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) of a gold mining site. For this purpose, several samples of tailings were taken from the recently abandoned TSF to a depth of 2.5 meters, representing 1 to 2 years old tailings. The samples were analyzed for pH, metals, residual cyanides, and Net Acid Generation Test (NAG test). The results showed that, in all samples, pH values were neutral to slightly alkaline. The sequential extraction method was employed to investigate the distribution and chemical fractions of lead (Pb) in Klity Creek sediments, Kanchanaburi, Thailand with the main objective to define the lead mobility in sediment and potential bioavailability in relation to sediment contamination levels. Samples were collected from a total of twelve sampling sites distributed from upstream of the polluted zone until the final downstream point at Srinakarin Reservoir. The results showed that the background value of total lead concentration in the sediments from this area was higher than those reported from other locations in Thailand. This paper reviews contamination status, sources and remediation of Cd in agricultural land in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Northwestern Thailand. The Cd contamination becamean environmental issue because mining of a Zn deposit area located uphill of the Mae Tao creekscaused movement of Cd and Zn along the creek to contaminate agricultural soils downstream. Blood Cd levels of residents in this contaminated area were found to exceed the national average of 0.5 µg g-1creatinine. The Satoyama Agricultural Development Tool (SADT) is based on five perspectives identified by the International Partnership for the SatoyamaInitiative (IPSI). To determine itsefficiency in indigenous communities, case studies were undertaken inthree hilltribe com-munities: Mueang Ang, Nhong Lom and Pa Kea Noi, located in the province of Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. Satoyama analysis was conducted in each village by officers attached to the Royal Project Foundation (RPF) and the Highland Research and Development Institute (HRDI) operating out of the stations of Inthanon and Mae Hae. This paper assessed physicochemical properties (temperature, pH, acidity, alkalinity, colour,odour, taste, EC, TDS, TH, turbidity, bicarbonate, phosphate, nitrate, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, Cl-& SO42-as well as heavy metal concentrations heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb and Zn) of selected wells and borehole near textile industries in Ikorodu, Nigeria. The physicochemical parameters were analysed using standard methods by APHA, while heavy metals were analysedusing atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS). This study investigates application of the reduction melting method to recover metals fromelectronic wastes. The study began with determination of the optimal conditions for metal recovery from cathode ray tube (CRT) glass by melting under various conditions. The reco-very of metallic lead and lead oxide (PbO) remaining in the glass residues for each set of melting condition were compared. It was found that the optimal condition for metallic Pb recovery from the CRT glass was melting the glass at 1200oC for 1 hand then soaking at precipitation temperature of 500oC for 1-2 h. Flooding remains a common environmental hazard worldwide, causing some of the most devastating natural disasters of the last century. This is why understanding public perception hasbecome such an important topic for policy makers concerned with flood risk management.This study investigated public perception of flooding events through analysis of risk communi-cation for Thailand's flood crisis in 2011. An online questionnaire was electronically distributed toresidents potentially affected by flooding in Bangkok. This studycompared thecontamination of the chemotherapeutic agent cyclophosphamide between using a conventional admixing procedure and closed system transfer devices (CSTDs). Surface wipes and urine samples were collected for two weeks before and two weeks after the CSTDs were used. The surface wipe samples were collected from critical areas in an aseptic dispensary unit and a chemotherapy patient care unit. The urine samples were collected from healthcare workers. From depths of 0-5 cm, 5-10 cm and 10-15 cm, sediment samples were collected from three locations in the lower region of the Ogun River Basin, namely Mokoloki, Oke-Oko and Kara. The samples were obtained using Van Veen sediment grab after which they were stored in well labeled polythene bags for onward transportation to the laboratory. The bloom-forming dinoflagellate, Protoperidinium divergenshas been linked with coastaleutrophication in tropical and subtropical regions. Moderate to intense harmful algal bloom of dinoflagellates Protoperidinium divergens (33,500 cells. mL-1) was observed during June 2012in Junglighat Bay of Port Blair in South Andaman. Bloom of Protoperidinium divergenswas observed for four days and declined afterwards due to heavy rainfall with low seawater temperature of 24 to 26°C. In this study sequential extraction was used to fractionate cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) from soils into six operationally defined groups; water soluble, buffer-exchangeable, carbonate, FeMn oxide, organic, and residual. Soil samples from agricultural areas surrounding Pha Te village, Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand, were classified into four categories; forest soil, upland soil, upper-paddy soil and lower-paddy soil. Total soil Cd and Zn concentrations ranged from 0.63 to 30.4 mg kg-1and 14.4 to 594 mg kg-1, respectively. Palm fibreis a waste product from the fruit crushing-extracting process in local communities. This study examined the characteristics of natural dyed palm yarns and fabrics producedfrom treated palm fibres. The results showed that fibre characteristics were improved by anaerobic fermentation, and following crushing and carding, were 3-5 times smaller, softer and more pliable.In the production of palm/cotton yarns of No. 7 (50/50), No.10(40/60), No.16(30/70)andNo.10(0/100),the 3-5 denier palm yarns and cotton yarns were spun in open-end spinning units. This study compares nutrient fluxes (throughfall and litterfall) in a rubber (Hevea brasiliensisWilld. Muell-Arg) plantation agro-ecosystem at Ikenne, SW Nigeria. Palmyra palm is a significant economic crop in Kirimat District, Sukhothai Province, and generates large quantities of husks, stalks and shells as by-products and wastes, which impacts on the local environment. The effects of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and diethylene triaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) on cadmium (Cd) uptake by water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) in Cd-contaminated soilwas studied. Experimental samples were separated into 4 treatment groups: 1) Untreated control, 2) EDTA addition, 3) DTPA addition, and 4) mixture of EDTA and DTPA (1:1) addition. Surfactant enhanced remediation is viewed as a potential method for removing organometallic compounds from contaminated aquifers. Dibutyltin dichloride (DBT), as a representative organometallic compound, was applied in sand packed columns to observe its solubilization behavior compared to that of perchloroetylene (PCE), a normal organic solvent. Ottawa sand was used as the porous media. A mixture of DBT and PCE was applied as the contaminant. The tracer study exhibited the plug flow condition with a retention time of 79.9 min. Current policies and plans geared toward green growth/green economy emphasize the greater use of economic instruments. This paper reviews the past and current application of economic instruments (EIs) in environmental management in Thailand. Insights gained from documentary research indicate that EIs such as product taxes through collection of excise taxes have been relatively effective, whilst user charges for solid waste and waste water treatment have been found to be unsuccessful in Thailand. Lessons learned from the draft Act on Economic Instruments for Environmental Management indicate several institutional constraints towards the extensive application of EIs. Effects Of Organic Fertilizer On Cd Bioavailability And Cd Accumulation In Rice Grown In Contaminated Paddy Soil, Mongkolchai Assawadithalerd, Meechai Siangliw, Chantra Tongcumpou

The effects of organic fertilizer on Cd phytoavailability and distribution in rice plants(Oryza sativaL.) were examined in pot and field experiments. The results of the pot experiment show that the addition of organic fertilizer increased the oxidizable Cd fraction(F3) and decreased the soluble and exchangeable Cd fraction (F1). There was also an increase in the dry matter yield when more organic fertilizer was applied. The Cd concentrations in the rice plant parts were observed in the following order: root > stem > grain.
