Central Bank Of Nigeria Annual Report And Statement Of Accounts For The Year Ended 31st December 1992., Central Bank Of Nigeria
CBN Annual Report
In 1992, Nigeria's economy faced significant pressures but showed resilience, with rapid growth in output and economic liquidity. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) intensified efforts to achieve inflation and exchange rate stability while improving the efficiency of the financial sector. The financial sector experienced rapid growth and structural changes, with the strongest growth occurring in common unity banking and mortgage finance institutions. Monetary and credit aggregates expanded at unprecedented rates, matching the all-time highs of the oil boom era of the mid-seventies. Interest rates rose significantly, with both deposit and lending rates rising in tandem with the movements of …

Access To Credit: The Case For Rural Women., E. B. I. Oladunni
Bullion
The alleviation of poverty has generally been the cornerstone of economic policy in Nigeria. Past policies have been pursued with the sole objective of improving the living standards of the people through enhanced income and generation of employment opportunities. Despite all machineries put in place, most of the women folk have not benefited because of some endemic socio-cultural problems affecting the women. This paper highlights the need for credit, conditions for attracting credit especially for rural women and the policies that can provide the right atmosphere for access to credit by rural women for sustainable development.
The Cost Of Home Ownership In Vermont, 1975-1990, Arthur G. Woolf
The Cost Of Home Ownership In Vermont, 1975-1990, Arthur G. Woolf
New England Journal of Public Policy
Housing prices in Vermont, like those in the other New England states, shot up dramatically during the economic boom of the 1980s. This article investigates the causes of that price increase and focuses on the cost of home ownership in Vermont in the years 1975 to 1990. Cost of home ownership is defined as the percentage of family income needed to finance an average-price home. Although prices skyrocketed during the 1980s, the actual cost of home ownership as a percentage of income was about 15 percent greater in 1990 than it was during the mid-1970s. Housing price increases are expected …

Doing Business In The Third World- With Special Reference To India, Premchander
Doing Business In The Third World- With Special Reference To India, Premchander
IIMB Management Review
Dictators, debts and declining economies are the dangers of the third world which have effectively kept away western businesses. The term third world, a product of the now defunct cold war, refers to those nations which currently constitute three fourths of the world population that are poor. This is a variegated grouping of nations with differing political systems, ranging from Westminster type democracies, neo-fascist dictatorships to monarchies -hereditary and otherwise. The sustaining economic models may be capitalist, Marxian or any acceptable mix of the two leading some writers to believe in the existence of convergent capitalism where elements of freemarket …

The Role Of Banks In Successful Implementation Of The Premier Export Processing Zone In Nigeria., C M. Anyanwu
The Role Of Banks In Successful Implementation Of The Premier Export Processing Zone In Nigeria., C M. Anyanwu
Bullion
The establishment and promotion of Export Processing Zones (EPZs) has been identified as a potential scheme for boosting manufactured exports. A decree (No. 34 Nigerian Export Processing Zones Decree 1991) formally establishing export processing zones in Nigeria was promulgated by the Federal Government on August 9, 1991. Consequently, an area beside the port of Calabar has been chosen as the site of Nigeria’s premier EPZ and the foundation stone was laid by the President in November,1991. This paper, therefore, examines the expected roles of the banks with a view of alerting them to the challenges ahead.
What Are The Costs Of Disinflation?, Dean D. Croushore
What Are The Costs Of Disinflation?, Dean D. Croushore
Economics Faculty Publications
The Federal Reserve can use monetary policy to reduce the inflation rate, a process known as disinflation. Are the benefits of disinflation worth the costs? Proponents of disinflation argue that the long-run benefits of price stability, including lower interest rates, increased economic efficiency, and perhaps faster economic growth, greatly exceed the short-run costs. Opponents, of course, claim the opposite, usually arguing that the short-run costs in terms of higher unemployment and lost output would be immense.
