Chapter I of this report briefly examines the history of the uranium industry in New Mexico. Chapter II considers uranium supply parameters in New Mexico. This section examines techniques used in estimating potential uranium resources. In particular, the methodology of petroleum resource estimates as applied by M. A. Lieberman as well as ERDA's Subjective Probability Analysis for New Mexico uranium resources are considered. In Chapter III, the demand side of the uranium market situation is considered. Several factors which affect demand for U₃O₈ such as recycling and the level of U-235 remaining in enrichment tails is discussed. …

This thesis addresses the economic issues affecting investment in architectural conservation. The potential benefits of conserving architecturally and/or historically significant structures are private benefits accruing to the owners and positive externalities accruing to the public, such as increases in tourism and land values (to the extent these benefits are not internalized by the owners), option values, and existence values. If all of these benefits are not recognized and accounted for, an undervaluation of architectural conservation generally results, which inevitably leads to misallocation of resources. The rapid depletion of our domestic fossil fuel resource base is an issue of great concern. Shortages, curtailments, and increased dependence upon foreign sources of energy are becoming the rule rather than the exception. This study examine the role of residential solar water and space heating as an alternative source of energy. In this study a scenario of future energy prices is developed and consumer costs from traditional sources are projected both on an annualized (life cycle) basis and on a current cost basis for residential space heating and domestic hot water. The Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) persuaded the Public Service Commission of New Mexico (PSC), in March 1975, to adopt a cost-of-service index (CSI) approach to setting electric service rates as an alternative to setting the service rates through formal rate hearings. This thesis primarily reviews the CSI's impact on the Company and the Commission.
