Model Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Indonesia: Peranan Ketergantungan Spasial, Aspiansyah Aspiansyah, Arie Damayanti

Jurnal Ekonomi dan Pembangunan Indonesia

This study aims to examine the role of spatial dependence on Indonesia’s regional economic growth based on panel data of all provinces in Indonesia during 1990–2015. By using spatial Durbin model, the authors found that spatial dependence plays an important role in achieving regional economic growth in Indonesia. Indonesia’s regional economic growth model that controls spatial dependence, yields better estimates than growth model that does not control spatial dependence. The researchers also found positive spatial spillover to Indonesia’s regional economic growth sourced from other region’s economic growth and initial per capita incomes, as well as population growth in other regions.

Industrial area is one of the determinant factors in the development of manufacturing industry in a region. Theoretically, industrial companies located in industrial areas have an impact on increasing productivity, added value, efficiency, and economic income of a region. This research aims to analyze the role of industrial area in overcoming the deindustrialization symptom with Social Accounting Matrix Model. The result of analysis shows that industrial area has an important role in increasing the output of economy and the absorption of bigger workforce so that indirectly will have an impact on acceleration of industrialization process and also to overcome deindustrialization.

Debates over the effect of trade openness on inequality across regions in a country have been arising. Mainly apply on developing countries, such as Indonesia, trade openness affect different level of development across regions. This study is aimed at determining the effect of trade openness on inequality within provinces in Indonesia. A panel data analysis of 33 Indonesian provinces in the period of 2006–2015 has showed that trade openness has no significant effect on regional inequality.

This paper studies empirical relationship between competition and innovation in Indonesia using micro data BPS. Lack of innovation data has requires this paper to use R&D expenditure as innovation in year of data avaibility. Competition is estimated by computing profit elasticity, based on idea of efficiency. Inverted-U shape tested with technology spread within industries at which effect of competition and innovation can turn from positive to negative. Empirical evidence shows that relationship between competition and innovation is inverted-U with very low optimal point. A prophylactic antibiotic for patients with cesarean section surgery is highly recommended in the clinical guideline. The use of antibiotics is selected by using criteria safety and cost-effectiveness. This partial economic evaluation in the form of cost and outcome analysis was using alongside observational study method, prospective data were collected from April to May 2017 covering 60 patients with cesarean section surgery who received prophylaxis antibiotics, comparing cost-effectiveness between Cefotaxime and Ceftriaxone. Strategic efforts are needed in Indonesia to implement the recently released human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) Test and Treat policy which promotes increased treatment uptake, known to have important economic benefits. Of Indonesia’s estimated 631,635 people living with HIV (PLHIV) in 2018, only 12% are on treatment. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan fenomena praktik politik oligarki dalam pemilihan kepala desa yang memiliki perbedaan pola dengan pemilihan umum di tingkat lokal dan nasional. Dengan metode penelitian kualitatif dan mengambil studi kasus di Desa Tanjung, Kecamatan Pagu, Kabupaten Kediri, penelitian ini menggambarkan bagaimana politik oligarki berbasis sumber daya material gagal memenangkan pemilihan kepala desa Tanjung. Indonesia post-crisis manufacturing growth has been dominated by technologically sophisticated industry. Hypothetically, this development would increase the demand for skilled and more specialized workers like vocational school graduates. However, statistical evidences show that manufacturing sophistication stimulated by integration with the Global Production Network increase demand for vocational as well as general high school graduates. Moreover, higher demand does not necessarily result in sustainable career prospect, as many vocational graduates still have limited opportunity to improve their skills while climbing the seniority ladder possibly caused by shifting Global Value Chain from export-oriented toward domestic market-oriented that affect the industry's technological complexity.

This study explored relationship between tax rate and revenues in the case of VAT, one of few type of consumption taxes that is considered to be a broad-based tax. Based on a larger set of countries - in comparison to previous studies, this study shows VAT rate has an inverted U-shaped relationship to VATÂ revenues, confirming the Laffer Curve theory. Exploring further on the effect of informality to maximum VAT rate, we found that higher informality will reduce government flexibility in its effort to increase tax rate. Integrally, the informal sector deals with the formal sector with pro-cyclical nature or as a complementary sector. Such conditions allow for wage disparity between sectors even in the same education group. Thus, this study seeks to determine the determinants of wage inequality between formal and informal employees in skilled and unskilled workers in Indonesia in 2017 using Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition. The results showed that the discrimination factor had a greater influence than the endowment factor on wage inequality and the endowment factors that contributed to the increase in wage inequality between the two groups were age squared, experience, and job training.

This paper discusses Indonesia's macroeconomic and trade development in the first quarter of 2018. The macroeconomic data shows that the industrial growth was inhibited by regulatory regime inconsistency, while consumption growth still lagged overall GDP growth, and investment growth tended to rise. The trade data shows that the non-oil-and-gas commodities dominated its export, although the commodities terms-of-trade declined. Indonesia's imports were mostly used as raw and auxiliary materials for the input of domestic production. The data also reveals that the larger the firms, the stronger tendency that they have comparative advantage in capital-intensive commodities, and vice versa.

The study explore the relationship between road and spending infrastructure with tax capacity in Indonesia. Using stochastic frontier analysis method and tax revenue data of 34 provinces in 2011–2016, this study confirms positive relationship between infrastructure spending and central and local tax capacity, while the availability of road infrastructure has positive significant impact only on local tax capacity. The level of income and education indicates a positive significantly eect both on central and local tax capacity. Coffee is the result of Indonesian plantations that have high competitiveness in the international market. However, coffee plantations in Indonesia have low productivity compared to other major coffee producing countries. This study aims to conduct a study of the productivity and technical efficiency of households coffee plantation business in the coffee producing center in Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that more than 50% of coffee plantation businesses in each of provinces have low productivity and medium technical efficiency. Education level is a variable that can increase productivity and technical efficiency significantly.

This study analyses the effect of foreign tourist expenditure, government expenditure and foreign investment on wage inequality between skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labour in the Indonesian tourism sector. The study uses time series data with a period of 22 years. The method used is Error Correction Model (ECM). The results of this study indicate that foreign tourist expenditure and government expenditure increase inequality in the short term, but in the long run can reduce wage inequality. Meanwhile, foreign investment increases inequality both in the short and long term.

The effectiveness of minimum wages is still debated, even though minimum wage regulation increases worker’s wages, yet it causes “disemployment effect”. This study aims to identify differences in minimum wages impact on probabilities out of formal sector for unskilled and skilled workers. The type of skill used is based on job classification. Using Sakernas data in August 2010 and 2015, probit regression was conducted to estimate minimum wages impact on probabilities out of formal sector on skilled and unskilled workers. Based on analysis, minimum wage on probability of exit from formal sector is higher for unskilled workers than skilled workers.

Pengaruh Penanaman Modal Asing Jepang Terhadap Perdagangan Intra-Industri Indonesia-Jepang, Afriandini Afriandini, Fithra Faisal Hastiadi

This study analyzes the effect of Japan’s foreign direct investment on Indonesia’s intra-industry trade (IIT) with Japan from 1990-2017. IIT is decomposed into 3 types, horizontal IIT (HIIT), upper vertical IIT (UVIIT), and lower vertical IIT (LVIIT) which indicates quality. The estimation result show that Japanese direct investment have a significant role in enhancing bilateral IIT. Analysis on each type of IIT reveals that Japanese direct investment have positive significant impact on HIIT and LVIIT, but there is no evidence on its impact to UVIIT.

This study aims to analyze the effect of household loan participation on microfinance (LKM) on the level of welfare in the form of expenditure for education and health by using IFLS data in 2014. The methods used are Ordinary Least Square (OLS) and Instrumental Variable (IV). The results of the analysis show that households that make loans are proven to have higher levels of education spending, especially for households in urban areas. Theoretically, in the labor market without discrimination, wages should be paid according to productivity. Unlike other studies that use worker level data, this study will identify gender wage discrimination using firm-level data. Using Industrial Survey Data in 1996 and 2006, the gender wage ratio and gender productivity ratio were estimated simultaneously using the nonlinear seemingly unrelated regression (NLSUR) with least square estimator. We find that there is wage discrimination against women in the manufacturing sector.
