Addictions counselors must have an understanding of the effects of licit and illicit drugs on the brain and body. In this 2-credit online course, students will come to understand basic classifications, indications, and contraindications of drugs including prescribed psychopharmacological medications, illicit drugs, and alcohol. This knowledge helps addictions counselors make appropriate referrals for medication evaluations and identify side effects.
