This provides an interesting subject for investigation because the Sentinel, as one of Milwaukee's first papers, kept in step with community progress and so reflects much of the development of this section of the country. Sentinel files reveal that the paper did not confine itself to Milwaukee alone, but took a keen interest in state, national, and to some extent, international affairs.

Before any attempt was made to gather material for this thesis, the writer interviewed Mr. Victor Sholis, political writer with the Chicago Times, who traveled with Roosevelt and Landon during the campaign, being to the Times what Arthur Sears Henning was to the Tribune. Mr. Sholis offered many valuable hints regarding what to look for in the study that was to be made.
