Blackness shines bright like the moon and beams outside of identity parameters that are limiting in Western society to determine its communicative function inside and outside systems of power. When Blackness intersects with performance, various ways to construct identity are highlighted to expand our understanding of theory and methods that emphasize difference and culture. Abstract

Uterine fibroids have become a rising global health concern, especially among Black women in America and worldwide. This is a quantitative study that explores the health news reporting on uterine fibroids in the United States of America. A content analysis of the top 10 selected U.S. newspapers (between 2017 and 2021) was conducted. This study used the purposive sampling technique. 104 newspaper articles were selected and coded into a code sheet using a coding scheme and then statistically analyzed using SPSS. This paper contributes to the literature on how diversity impacts groups by exploring how communication mediates the ability of diverse individuals to work together. To do so we incorporate a communication channel into a representative model of problem-solving by teams of diverse agents that provides the foundations for one of the most widely cited analytical results in the literature on diversity and team performance: the “Diversity Trumps Ability Theorem”. We extend the model to account for the fact that communication between agents is a necessary feature of team problem-solving, and we introduce the possibility that this communication occurs with error, …

This research paper focuses on how the Toledo Lucas County Public Library (TLCPL) has adapted to the 21st century, with an emphasis on the impact of digital materials and the Internet. This paper looks at these changes primarily through three lenses: official policies, services and programs, and internal culture. This paper uses quantitative data to determine if TLCPL has maintained overall growth in areas such as number of cardholders, customer counts, circulation, computer usage, and program attendance. This ethnographic study examines the significance of linguistic cultural hybridity among online Filipino communities watching Korean drama series. The study demonstrates the interwoven deeds of online Filipino communities in terms of language, performative acts, and habituation interdependent with the residents’ literacy, nature, and environment. Using the generated Inter Phenomenon Linguistic Cultural (IPLC) model, the study appraises the apparent discourses in K-dramas, assesses the residents’ K-drama-related performatives, and underscores the processes of habituation in platforms connected to conversations and meaning-making with others. This study examines the words and situations that trigger and those that do not trigger a hotel response when customers post negative online feedback. The research explores, through sentiment analysis, bigrams, trigrams, and word networking, the valence of online reviews of five important hotels in Las Vegas. Only the feedback that has been categorized as negative by the algorithm is selected. In correspondence to this feedback, the existence of answers from the hotels is checked together with the response style. Vaccines are a strong public health tool to protect against severe disease, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19. Still, inequities in COVID-19 vaccination rates and health outcomes continue to exist among Black and Latino populations. Boston Medical Center (BMC) has played a significant role in vaccinating medically underserved populations, and organized a series of community-engaged conversations to better understand community concerns regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. We accessed and analyzed nine publicly available recordings of the community-engaged conversations which were held between Mar 2021-Sep 2021 (n=8-122 attendees). Lack of a common language between researcher and participants, especially when participants speak different languages, complicates and makes the qualitative research process more difficult. Since language is the vehicle through which meaning is eventually communicated to the reader, interpretation and translation are essential to qualitative research. The article aims to explore the interaction of hearing-impaired with the sign language translation service in the media and know the gratifications which achieved from the media programs. The study adopted the descriptive approach, using the questionnaire to find out the opinion of a sample of hearing disabilities, which amounted to (30) participants from the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Charitable Society of the Deaf and Dumb in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The study aimed to identify the role of digital media platforms of the educational efficiency in schools and universities in the Hebron Governorate: “Glory International School and Hebron University". The relevant institution consists of n=52 individuals from the available sample, and the researchers conducted interviews with different specialists. The Philippines’ risk communication system relies on information dissemination, which disregards local capacity for managing risk. This research aimed to examine risk communication in Roxas City, an important economic center working on capacitation after damage by Supertyphoon Haiyan. Guided by Encoding–Decoding theory, the researcher interviewed government officers and facilitated discussions at coastal and inland communities. The researcher found that local government viewed communities as audiences who intuitively knew what to do with scientific information. The coastal community had indigenous knowledge but acted based on fear of sanctions. The inland community discussed information from media, which led to community decision-making. These …

In Hong Kong, the anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill movement took place in 2019. Against the backdrop of legislation across the United States regulating drag performances, I turn to the reality television (RTV) franchise Drag Race as a popular media site where queer identities are represented. More specifically, I analyze the series RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs The World (UKVTW) which is the first series in the franchise to feature participants from different countries competing for the title “Queen of the Mother-Tucking World.” Furthermore, the series suggests it represents “global” drag.
