Ua3/9/5 Partnerships For Progress: Linking Higher Education & Economic Development, Wku President's Office, Gary A. Ransdell

WKU Administration Documents

Speech delivered by WKU president Gary Ransdell at the National Governor's Association Center for Best Practices. In response to Governor Patton's challenges to create Programs of Distinction and enhance the state's capacity for economic development, we, at Western, have created a series of applied science centers. These centers are directing faculty talent toward creating a relevant curriculum in the sciences, toward solving environmental and material problems which limit economic development, and toward creating practice-based experiences for students. A by-product of these centers is a strengthened core curriculum which brings the applied sciences into focus for all WKU students.

The Bcs And The Non-Sense It Spawns, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

About this time each year since the creation of the BCS I have posed the question, "Who took the "C" out of the "BCS?" Each year there are different answers to the question, and this year there are many and there may be still more to come.

Using A Civil Procedure Exam Question To Teach Persuasion, Sophie M. Sparrow Dec 2001

Using A Civil Procedure Exam Question To Teach Persuasion, Sophie M. Sparrow

Law Faculty Scholarship

Studies show that learners master new material more effectively when it builds upon what they already know. By revisiting assignments from a previous semester, students can focus their efforts on persuading, rather than learning new doctrine or facts. Turning a predictive discussion into a persuasive argument demonstrates that making an argument requires the same rigorous thinking as predicting a result. One way to do this is to assign students to write an argument based on their fall Civil Procedure exam.

Engaging Communication In Conflict : Systemic Practice By Stephen W Littlejohn And Kathy Domenici, Sage Publications, 2000., Ganesh T Jejurikar

IIMB Management Review

The book is well structured and flows smoothly from Part I to Part IV spread over eight chapters. It contains theory, conceptualisation, metaphors, methodology and live examples without jargon and motherhood statements. The beauty of the book is in its simplicity and brevity. The authors opine that “conflicts can be made and abandoned, occupied for a time and reshaped, renewed, refurbished andrebuilt.” Though the authors comment in the preface that, “Human beings have trouble managing the very difference that makes them human,” the book is full of optimism and conveys confidence and trust in the inherent strength of human beings …

Successful Branding By Pran K Choudhury, Universities Press, 2000., Vijay G Vancheswar Dec 2001

Successful Branding By Pran K Choudhury, Universities Press, 2000., Vijay G Vancheswar

IIMB Management Review

Successful Branding is a good amalgam of real-life Indian case studies which highlight the role of branding in successful marketing. While most of the cases revolve around fast moving consumer brands, given the sensitivity of this category to market perceptions, houdhury does provide interesting cases of brand creation in low interest category commodity products such as cement(Ambuja Cement) and intermediate products such as denim (Arvind Mills).
