These papers have been selected from among those presented at the spring 2019 conference of the Society for the Academic Study of Social Imagery (SASSI), devoted to the theme of THE IMAGE OF ADVENTURE in Literature, Media, and Society. The theme – and keynote address, delivered by UNC English chair Andreas Mueller – was selected in honor of the 300th anniversary of Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe. It is possible for an organization to create a self-inflicted crisis through the unintentional transmission of a poorly worded or ill-conceived social media message. Cyberbullying Involvement: Impacts Of Violence Exposure In The Media, Family, Society, And School, Reny Yuliati, Andria Saptyasari

Cyberbullying is a severe problem which may occur in adolescents during online communication. They may become a perpetrator or victim. This research investigates the violence exposure in several contexts, such as media, family, society, and school, and its relationship to the students’ involvement, whether they are the cyberbullying perpetrator or victim. A survey of senior high school students (N total = 201) was conducted. The study found that violence exposure, especially in the media and schools, significantly segregated the students’ cyberbullying involvement status. Youngsters, who are exposed to the violence in the media and schools, tend to be the cyberbullying …

This article would like to unveil avatar interactions under the attention economy framework in online video streaming applications, taking YouTube as example, and how it benefits content creators to monetize their channels’ contents. The theory of attention economy is proposed to explain how these avatar interactions in video streaming applications are perceived as a mode of transaction by using attention as universal currency. This article is elaborated using the social information processing theory to identify content creators’ avatar credibility through the application of cues during computer-mediated communication. Introduction: It is widely believed that interprofessional health care teams can improve patient care and increase safety; however, intra-team communication has often proven to be problematic. One particularly important aspect of this problem is how teams collaborate to seek the information needed to address the issues they are confronting. Network analysis offers a rich set of concepts for tackling this problem.

Information Seeking Among Women Aged 18 To 25 About The Risk Of Sexual Aggression, James Pokrywczynski, Robert J. Griffin Ph.D., Gregory J. Calhoun

Many researchers have studied risk factors related to sexual violence, and few studies have explored what differences account for the various ways women seek information about sexual violence. This study accomplishes this by applying part of the Risk Information Seeking and Processing (RISP) model to sexual aggression among young females (18-25 years). The results from a national survey of females show that negative affect (worry and anger combined) showed a direct positive effect on risk information seeking. Also, binge drinking does not make women feel much more at risk from sexual assault. Some differences exist between women in school and …

The purpose of this paper is to look at the intersection of trendjacking and social justice within five specific advertisements targeted at an American audience from well-known brands. A variety of success in utilizing this intersection is presented and explained through an analysis of the advertisement, people highlighted, the brand’s financial giving and history, social media response, etc. The five brands examined are Pepsi, Dove, Nike, Airbnb, and Levi’s.

The skills related to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) were examined in this study within the context of eight communities with a high degree of vulnerability and diversity. The objectives of the study were: a) to conduct a diagnosis of thirteen competencies related to the use of ICT in eight Mayan-speaking communities in the state of Yucatan, Mexico, and b) to examine such variables as gender, marital status, and the education level of their parents. in relation to the degree of ICT among these youth.

This paper examined whether positive and negative emotional displays influenced negotiation outcomes (value creation and claiming) differentially for female and male negotiators. Also considered was how negotiation dyad gender composition might affect value creation and claiming. I examined recordings from a negotiation exercise (N = 194). Results revealed that when females expressed negative emotions significantly reduced value claiming on the part of those female negotiators. However, the effects of expressing positive emotions on negotiation outcomes did not vary by negotiator gender. The findings suggest that female negotiators do not need to be positive but only need not be negative to …

In fine-grained tweet geolocation, tweets are linked to the specific venues (e.g., restaurants, shops) fromwhich they were posted. This explicitly recovers the venue context that is essential for applications such aslocation-based advertising or user profiling. For this geolocation task, we focus on geolocating tweets that arecontained in tweet sequences. In a tweet sequence, tweets are posted from some latent venue(s) by the sameuser and within a short time interval. This dissertation is directed towards improving the performance of 5G Wireless Fronthaul Networks and Wireless Sensor Networks, as measured by reliability, fault recovery time, energy consumption, efficiency, and security of transmissions, beyond what is achievable with conventional error control technology.
