How we do our work has been shifting for decades as new technologies have made remote working not only possible, but also desirable from productivity, lifestyle and environmental perspectives. Such technologies have been crucial to keeping many businesses and employees going during the enforced isolation of the coronavirus pandemic. The advantages and pitfalls of remote work are discussed.

Student publications used to be by students for students. They still are, but with upheavals in media, student journalists are starting to reach audiences well beyond campus. DePaul's student newspaper, The DePaulia, started a Spanish-language edition called La DePaulia that is distributed via social media, and its online magazine, 14 East, has a Spanish-language section called Pueblo.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has made countless efforts to fight radicalization propaganda in cyberspace. However, cyber technology evolution and the smart use of social media in fostering terrorist activities and radical ideologies have posed big challenges. Numerous studies have tried to understand online radicalization communication strategies, but very few have investigated the effectiveness of counter-radicalization programs in the UAE and the world in general. This research aims first to understand the network, communication, and narrative characteristics of radicalization and counter-radicalization accounts on Twitter. I’M The One: Social Media, Social Identity, And Elections, Jason Anthony Cain

This study surveyed voters to investigate why they shared political information on social media during the 2016 election. A strong social identity informed by political alignment was found to predict both polarization and more sharing, while feeling politically misaligned was found to decrease information sharing, supporting a spiral of silence phenomenon. Those with higher scores on a scale of social identity were more likely to feel sharing information to be an influential activity.

BACKGROUND

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States and can cause serious health problems like genital warts and cancer. However, vaccination can prevent some of these issues. Although the CDC recommends that individuals between 9-26 years old should receive the HPV vaccine, catch-up vaccination until 45 years old is available upon further guidance from healthcare providers.

The Handmaid’s Tale is a novel by Margaret Atwood that has won numerous awards for its frightful dystopian imagery. It was recently adapted for series television, an adaptation that has led some to see beyond the confines of the printed word. Columnists for a number of newspapers and magazines have suggested the television series provides insights into contemporary politics and religion. This study examines the way these essayists wrestled with various interpretations of the show. Some writers based their fearful reaction to the show on the Trump administration. Others, though, scoffed at this interpretation and seemed to enjoy doing so. …

Negotiating Afro-Jewish Identity In The Cabo Verdean Diaspora, Alma Gottlieb

Journal of Cape Verdean Studies

In this paper, I explore how diasporic Cabo Verdean-Americans with Jewish ancestry (especially those living in the New England region of the U.S.) experience their racially and spiritually mixed (and doubly or even triply stigmatized) identity. Being African in (racist) North America presents enormous challenges. Being Jewish in (increasingly anti-Semitic) North America presents different but somewhat parallel challenges. To account for unexpected identity crossings, I combine critical race theory with a Geertzian approach to understanding social worlds. Abstract

Up to 85% of nurses have reported exposure to incivility in the workplace (Hunt & Marini, 2012). The often-subtle nature of incivility toward nurses in a minority population may partially explain why it remains a problem. Healthcare organizations realize the need for civility to counter the high turnover rate, staff shortages, and low job satisfaction reported by nurses, but lack understanding of how nurses of a minority population perceive incivility and bullying.
