Framing The Frame: "Information Has Value" For Business Library Instruction, Gary Arave, Lumarie Guth, Ilana Stonebraker, Grace Liu
University Libraries Faculty & Staff Presentations
Four business librarians will share their experiences of retooling th ACRL Information Literacy frame "Information Has Value." This presentation will focus on four different learning approaches, pillars of persuasive argumentation, critical thinking discussions, a matrix, and role-play. One librarian outlines some of the problems with student understanding of the value of information based on the experience of teaching a massive 2500-student onboarding course for incoming Freshmen in which “Information Has Value” is addressed from both rhetorical and practical angles. Another librarian will present how they use “Information Has Value” in processes of reflection for decision making, exploring the frame through …

Background: Ample evidence indicates that everyday perceptions of the social environment can affect health behaviors; these include social comparisons (i.e., self-evaluations compared to others) and positive versus negative social interactions. However, relations between social perceptions and healthy behaviors have received little attention among specific medical populations for whom an improved understanding of behavioral determinants could inform updates to tailored interventions. Research methods that capture and differentiate between stable, person-level differences and dynamic, within-person variability in these relations would be particularly useful, both for identifying their nature in daily life and informing improvements to tailored interventions.
Methods: We conducted a series …

Finding Hidden Members In Your Community, Cheryl A. Burkhart-Kriesel
Cornhusker Economics
It is not uncommon for rural Nebraska coffee shop talk to touch on the topic of who is involved or not involved in the community. Typically, the conversation comes to the conclusion that the same people seem to be doing everything. The topic could relate to a civic group, community event, or even an elected office in the community. There are no new faces and no new ideas as well as there is no one there to allow for a leadership transition. Have you ever heard this conversation? Have you participated in it?

The Young Black Girl: A Narration Of Stem Identity Through Science Origin In Elementary School, Heather F. Lavender
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
An ethnographic qualitative case study was conducted by examining the perceptions of two 5th grade Black girls at an independent school about their involvement with school science, the impact of race and gender towards their perception, and the influence of teachers, peers, and family on their science identity. Black girls are often relegated to outsider status within the classroom, lacking power and authority, which results in Black girls being denied a rightful presence in their learning community (Dumas & Ross, 2016). Additionally, their presence in STEM careers does not reflect their presence nationwide (Graves et al., 2014). The proposed …

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
The black soil in northeast China presents a trend of thinning, hardening, impoverishment, and acidification under the longterm high-intensity utilization, and faces the water resources shortage and ecological environment imbalance. Thus, the coordination between soil and water resources and environment has become the bottleneck of sustainable agricultural development in northeast China. The black soil protection and utilization is not only a problem of cultivated land system itself, but also a problem of harmonization of mountain-river-forest-farmland-lake-grassland-sandy land ecosystem. To achieve the goal of sustainable use of the black soil, it is necessary to give full play to the function of soil …

Compared with soil degradation of black soil of other areas in the world, which caused by conventional tillage regarding as ploughed with residue return, soil degradation in Northeast China caused by rotary-till and residue remove or burning is more serious. Conservation tillage with residue cover and no or reduced tillage is one of the most important techniques for the protection and utilization of black soil. This paper briefly presents the derivation and definition of conservation tillage, and its main techniques in the world, as well as the issue of application and extension in China. Over the past 15 years, the …

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
In recent years, when faced with the gap problem of welfare services, Japanese society has gradually realized that relying only on traditional problem-solving strategies could not meet all the needs of social life problems. Many practical innovations with "co-production" as the core were formed. Therefore, this study analyzes the causes of the gap problem in welfare services, clarifies the specific principle of "co-production" in problem solving, and on this basis refines it into a new strategy as "co-production model". By observing the functional mechanism of this new strategy in Japan's welfare service practice, this study holds that for the future …
