DeBono’s Six Thinking Hats problem-solving technique was used in several online internship courses in order to facilitate case presentations by counselor trainees. The process and results of this method will be presented along with student testimony of their use of Six Hats during group supervision. Counselor educators will be introduced to this technique and will practice its implementation in order to support counselor interns as they think through each facet of case conceptualization.

Sex trafficking recruitment takes place through manipulation, exploitation, and coercion. Counselors must know who is vulnerable to recruitment, and how targets are selected. It is vital to learn methods of assessment for discerning if victims are being groomed by pimps through boyfriending or other techniques, and why she allows it.

Adolescents today occupy a different social space than any previous generation. Technology and social media have changed behavior and relationships, and there are many psychological consequences including rising levels of loneliness, depression, and suicide. As counselors we must recognize the changed world our children inhabit, and develop new strategies for helping teens and those who relate to them. How counselors can best respond to this new social space and original research on the impact of social media in several cultures will be covered.

Simple Life In Rural America: An Investigation Of International Faculty Members Classroom Interaction And Migration Motives At A Teaching-Focused University, Chenyu Liu

By interviewing 15 international faculty members who are currently employed at a teaching-focused university in the rural South of the U.S., this study investigated: 1) what brought them to the university in rural America; 2) whether students’ complaints about their English proficiency affected the levels of their classroom interaction with students; and 3) whether the levels of their job satisfaction affected their migration motives. The present study found job opportunity is the only reason that drew the 15 participants to rural America. Mental Health Jail Diversion: A Therapeutic Approach To Offending In Twenty-First Century America, Ryan J. Parent
Criminology Student Work
This analysis is concerned with understanding the facets of criminal justice diversion programs that successfully improve the mental wellbeing of participants and, as a subsequent effect, reduce offending amongst the mentally ill populous in the United States. An inquiry of pre-program and post-program data from both adult and juvenile mental health specific programs reveals that participation amongst both groups shows a meaningful reduction in new/repeat offending in comparison to non-participants. The data shows that the expansion of law enforcement Crisis Intervention Team’s (CIT’s) has a compounding effect to the positive results. A review of these programs in Australia indicates that …
