Teaching Skills For Self Sufficiency: Health Management For Patients With Disabilities And Chronic Health Conditions, Teresa M. Hickam, Kathy Smith
Posters
Research shows patients who develop self-health management skills are able to translate these skills in other life domains such as higher education, social interaction and employment. Persons with chronic health conditions or disabilities often face challenges securing employment which in turn impacts self sufficiency and long-term health. The poster focuses on two programs at Children's Mercy serving as key building blocks for adolescents to manage their lives.

La Aproximación Dialógica Al Abuso Sexual Infantil Y Sus ‘Efectos’ Sexuales: La Experiencia De Un Hombre Con Identidad Gay, Alma V. Guzmán-Díaz, Patricia Trujano Ruiz
La Aproximación Dialógica Al Abuso Sexual Infantil Y Sus ‘Efectos’ Sexuales: La Experiencia De Un Hombre Con Identidad Gay, Alma V. Guzmán-Díaz, Patricia Trujano Ruiz
The Qualitative Report
Using Emphasis-Purposeful Sampling-Phenomenon Of Interest–Context (Eppic) Framework To Reflect On Two Qualitative Research Designs And Questions: A Reflective Process, Michael E. Kalu
The Qualitative Report
A satisfactory research question often signifies the beginning point for many researchers. While this can be true for quantitative studies because of pre-defined research questions, qualitative research questions undergo series of revisions through a reflective process. This reflective process provides the framework for the subjectivity associated with qualitative inquiry. The continuous iterative reflective process is an essential component for developing qualitative research questions that correspond with the various qualitative study designs. Although qualitative inquiry is term exclusively subjective, there is a need to use a framework in developing qualitative research questions. The Emphasis- Purposeful sampling- Phenomenon of interest – Context …
Technology In University Physical Activity Courses: A Mini-Ethnographic Case Study, Dannon G. Cox, Jennifer M. Krause, Mark A. Smith
Technology In University Physical Activity Courses: A Mini-Ethnographic Case Study, Dannon G. Cox, Jennifer M. Krause, Mark A. Smith
The Qualitative Report
As younger generations become increasingly reliant on technology, higher educational institutions must continually attempt to stay with or ahead of the curve to foster 21st century teaching and learning. College and university physical activity courses (PACs) are encouraged to incorporate technology for effective pedagogical practices. No qualitative research has specifically examined the culture of PACs instructors’ attitudes and experiences with technology as a pedagogical tool. A mini-ethnographic case study explored the use of technology among seven graduate teaching assistants who shared their pedagogical experiences, teaching practices, and perceptions of technology within PACs. Using an interpretive phenomenological analysis, composite narrative accounts …

Barriers To Publication: Stories Of Ph.D. Students From Malaysian Universities, Lantip Diat Prasojo Prasojo, Akhmad Habibi, Muhammad Sofwan, Mohd Faiz Mohd Yaakob, Amirul Mukminin, Lia Yuliana
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study aimed at elaborating barriers to publication perceived by doctoral (Ph.D.) students from Malaysian universities. We interviewed 7 Ph.D. students from 3 Malaysian universities. Besides, we also distributed a survey instrument to 125 participants who attended doctoral programs in 12 Malaysian universities. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the interview data. Meanwhile, descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA were applied for the survey data analysis. Findings revealed some external barriers such as lack of funding for publication fee, lack of funding for professional translators, a response time of the reviewers, negative results of the review, and difficulties in coordinating with …

Mentorship In Sobriety: An Alternative To Twelve Step Support For Deaf People, Ron Lybarger, Katherine A. Sandberg
Mentorship In Sobriety: An Alternative To Twelve Step Support For Deaf People, Ron Lybarger, Katherine A. Sandberg
JADARA
For individuals seeking recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction/dependence, the most common source of support is Twelve Step programs. Some people who experience problems as the result of alcohol or other drug use seek help directly from these programs. Others turn to Twelve Step programs as a source of ongoing support after having completed chemical dependency treatment. For years, deaf recovering people, like their hearing counterparts have been referred to Twelve Step meetings. Frequently, Twelve Step meetings, related literature, and sponsorship are not accessible to Deaf individuals pursuing recovery. The authors suggest there may be alternatives to traditional Twelve …
