Sustainability Seminar Series

Urban greening and sustainability approaches are well accepted methods for improving the urban environment and combating the climate crisis. Cleaning up potentially contaminated lands and bringing them back into constructive public use is one of the benefits of greening. However, greening efforts may have unintended consequences, resulting in adverse social and economic impacts to the existing residents, who are often the most vulnerable urban populations. Spatial analyses of case study examples show that greening can spur “green gentrification.” Measures can be taken to integrate social equity objectives into urban sustainability planning, to mitigate gentrification, and to improve equitable distribution of …

Geosocial (i.e., location-based) dating apps are an increasingly popular way in which people meet for sexual purposes. For example, Tinder has at least 10 million active users a day (Sumter, Vandenbosch, & Ligtenberg, 2016). At present, little is known about the use of geosocial/location-based dating applications for sexual hookups and the relationship between this behavior and personality constructs. Taking History And Vital Signs: Characterizing History Of Medicine Efforts At Academic Medical Centers, Jordan Johnson, Kristine M. Alpi, Meg Langford

Pacific Northwest Chapter of MLA Annual Meeting

To characterize efforts surrounding HOM/HS communities across the U.S., we identified the top thirty medical schools in both primary care and research using U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Rankings. We searched and browsed the websites provided by the institutions to collect information pertaining to any presence of an on-campus HOM/HS community. Upon identifying an HOM/HS community, we collected information about the group’s mission; the funding of the group; the membership structure; the typical activities and initiatives; the library’s involvement with the group; and any course offerings related to HOM/HS at the institution.
