The Ethics Of Facebook’S Virtual Cemeteries, Rachel Robinson-Greene

Languages, Philosophy, and Communication Studies Faculty Publications

In May, Facebook reported hitting 1.94 billion users—a statistic that speaks to the tremendous popularity and influence of the social network. As any Facebook user knows, members must take the good aspects of the technology with the bad. The network can be a great place to reconnect with old friends, to make new ones, and to keep in touch with loved ones who live far away. Unfortunately, conversations on Facebook also frequently end friendships. Facebook profiles and posts often tell us far more about people than may seem warranted by the intimacy level of our relationship with them.

The Impact Of Library Tutorials On The Information Literacy Skills Of Occupational Therapy And Physical Therapy Students In An Evidence-Based Practice Course: A Rubric Assessment, April Schweikhard, Toni Hoberecht, Alyssa Peterson, Ken Randall

Library System Faculty Publications

This study measures how online library instructional tutorials implemented into an evidence-based practice course have impacted the information literacy skills of occupational and physical therapy graduate students. Through a rubric assessment of final course papers, this study compares differences in students’ search strategies and cited sources pre- and post-implementation of the tutorials. The population includes 180 randomly selected graduate students from before and after the library tutorials were introduced into the course curriculum. Results indicate a statistically significant increase in components of students’ searching skills and ability to find higher levels of evidence after completing the library tutorials.

Exploring Bicycle Accessibility And Equity In Portland, Oregon, Jenny H. Liu Jan 2018

Exploring Bicycle Accessibility And Equity In Portland, Oregon, Jenny H. Liu

PSU Transportation Seminars

As urban areas across the country are investing in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure to promote environmentally sustainable transportation and to develop livable communities, many have pointed to improvements in environmental quality, economic development and public health as potential positive outcomes. While these outcomes of active transportation infrastructure are relatively well documented, it is also known that both transportation and environmental amenities are typically unevenly distributed in the urban context. Studies show that those who are the most socioeconomically disadvantaged (i.e. low income, people of color, etc.) are also those who disproportionately experience transportation disadvantages.

This study contributes to the existing …

The Revised Ncaa Division I Governance Structure After Three Years: A Scorecard, Brian D. Shannon Jan 2018

The Revised Ncaa Division I Governance Structure After Three Years: A Scorecard, Brian D. Shannon

Texas A&M Law Review

As part of the August 2014 Division I Governance re-design, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors, acting on the recommendation of a Board-appointed Steering Committee, granted certain autonomous decision-making powers to the Autonomy 5 conferences and their sixty-five member institutions. In effect, this recommendation by the Board’s Steering Committee enabled the Autonomy 5 conferences to begin to adopt policy legislation independently from the rest of Division I. Accordingly, the Steering Committee developed and recommended a structure “designed to allow permissive use of resources or to otherwise enhance the well-being of student-athletes by any [Autonomy 5 institutional] member, [or] to …

Russia And Its Neighbors: A Geopolitical Analysis Of The Ukrainian Conflict, Michele Pigliucci Jan 2018

Russia And Its Neighbors: A Geopolitical Analysis Of The Ukrainian Conflict, Michele Pigliucci

Journal of Global Initiatives: Policy, Pedagogy, Perspective

Within the context of a new Cold War between the Western powers and Russia, one of the most dangerous hot spots is Ukraine. Since 2014, in fact, the Ukrainian army has been engaged in a civil war against Russian-backed troops of self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk Republics. This crisis appears as a new geopolitical tool both for Russia and for the United States: for the former, in order to contain NATO expansion, for the latter, in order to counteract Russian influence and to open the way for U.S. liquefied natural gas exports in Europe, reducing European energy dependence on Russia (Chornii, …
