Influence Of Performance Expectancy And Facilitating Conditions On Use Of Digital Library By Engineering Lecturers In Universities In South-West, Nigeria, Saheed Hamzat, Iyabo Mabawonku

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Digital library (DL) is an important information system which provides all-encompassing benefits to various stakeholders in scholarship and research through its provision of access to immediate and up-to-date information resources. The review of literature indicated low use of this system by engineering lecturers owing to system characteristics; and pay little or no attention to factors such as Performance Expectancy (PE) and Facilitating Conditions (FC) on the use of this system by engineering lecturers in universities. This study therefore investigated the influence of performance expectancy and facilitating conditions on the use of digital library by engineering lecturers in universities in South-west, …

Heganism, Thomas E. Randall Feb 2018

Heganism, Thomas E. Randall

Between the Species

An emblematic association exists between meat consumption and the gender identity hegemonic masculinity. This association is so strong that men who pursue meatless diets (especially vegans) are likely to be socially ostracized. Heganism is a diet/gender identity that aims to reconstruct hegemonic masculinity with the goal of removing these stigmas attached to male veganism. Yet heganism fails to do this, and, in fact, worsens the marginalization of male vegans. Therefore, heganism ought to be rejected. Instead, an alternative option for reducing the marginalization of male vegans could be found in the emergent literature on non-hegemonic masculinities. By rejecting hegemonic …

Obama’S Fight For Rigor And Results In Social Policy, Ron Haskins

Brookings Scholar Lecture Series

This lecture tells the story of how the Obama administration changed the role of evidence in federal policy making. Based on public documents and 135 interviews with major players from the White House, the Office of Management and Budget, federal agencies, Congress, and the child advocacy community, the lecture provides insight into the tools and methods that should serve as a blueprint for policymakers on how to bring social science evidence – especially from program evaluation – to the center of policy making.

The Anchor, Volume 131.16: February 7, 2018, Hope College

The Anchor: 2018

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Taking An Hpv Vaccine Research-Tested Intervention To Scale In A Clinical Setting, Suellen Hopfer, Anne E. Ray, Michael L. Hecht, Michelle Miller-Day, Rhonda Belue, Gregory Zimet, W. Douglas Evans, Francis X. Mckee

Communication Faculty Articles and Research

Research tested interventions are seldom ready for wide spread use. Successful intervention adaptation to clinical settings demands an iterative process with target audience feedback. We describe the adaptation process of implementing an NCI research tested HPV vaccine intervention, Women's Stories, to a community clinic context (Planned Parenthood). Five phases are described for the adaptation of content and the development of a health kiosk intervention delivery system: (a) informant interviews with the target audience of young adult, predominantly African-American women, (b) translating HPV vaccine decision narratives into prevention messages, (c) health kiosk interface design, (d) conducting a usability study of the …

Goodbye To The National Endowment For The Arts?, Naomi Adiv Feb 2018

Goodbye To The National Endowment For The Arts?, Naomi Adiv

Urban Studies and Planning Faculty Publications and Presentations

In the shadow of the truly egregious policies rolled out by the Trump administration in their first year in office (anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant policies, de-staffing the State Department into paralysis, shrinking national monuments, strangling the ACA), and a general tone of chaos surrounding the office of the presidency, a standing threat remains. That is: among other cuts, freezes and gag orders, the administration has vowed to defund the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Here, I demonstrate how current political arguments around defunding the NEA are derived …

Does Gender Really Matter In Agriculture?, Marianna Khachaturyan, E. Wesley F. Peterson Feb 2018

Does Gender Really Matter In Agriculture?, Marianna Khachaturyan, E. Wesley F. Peterson

Cornhusker Economics

Agriculture comprises around 9.5 percent of GDP for all developing countries, 26.0 percent for the least developed, 17.6 percent in South Asia and 17.4 percent in Sub -Saharan Africa compared with only 1.1 percent in the United States (World Bank, 2018). Agriculture is the main source of employment and livelihood for many, especially in Asia and Africa where about 60 percent of workers (both men and women) are employed in the agricultural sector (Agarwal, 2015). Globally, about 43 percent of workers who are engaged in agricultural activities are women (Akter et al., 2017), and across Asian and African countries, about …

Propensity To Patent And Firm Size For Small R&D-Intensive Firms, Albert N. Link, John T. Scott Feb 2018

Propensity To Patent And Firm Size For Small R&D-Intensive Firms, Albert N. Link, John T. Scott

Dartmouth Scholarship

The Schumpeterian hypothesis about the effect of firm size on research and development (R&D) output is studied for a sample of R&D projects for R&D-intensive firms that are small but have substantial variance in their sizes. Across the distribution of firm sizes, the elasticity of patenting with respect to R&D ranged from 0.41 to 0.55, with the elasticities being largest for intermediate levels of firm size and also varying directly with the extent to which the projects are Schumpeterian in the cost or value senses. The paper’s findings at the R&D project level are compared with the literature’s findings at …

Financial Strain And The Work-Home Interface: A Test Of The Work-Home Resources Model From The Study For Employment Retention Of Veterans (Serve), Mackenna Laine Perry Feb 2018

Financial Strain And The Work-Home Interface: A Test Of The Work-Home Resources Model From The Study For Employment Retention Of Veterans (Serve), Mackenna Laine Perry

Dissertations and Theses

Money is consistently one of the most common and significant sources of stress in America. The American Psychological Association's annual Stress in America survey has found that money and work have been two of the top sources of "very" or "somewhat" significant stress for Americans since 2007, when the first report was released. Drawing upon the work-home resources model, this study examined the longitudinal effects of financial strain as a component of the work-home interface on a sample of 512 employed veterans from the post-9/11 era. The work-home resources model posits that contextual demands and contextual resources in one domain …

Opportunities For Audiologists’ To Use Patient-Centered Communication During Hearing Device Monitoring Encounters, Corinne K. Coleman, Karen F. Muñoz, Clarissa W. Ong, Grayson M. Butcher, Lauri Nelson, Michael P. Twohig

Psychology Faculty Publications

Patient-centered care incorporates patient's priorities, values, and goals. Audiologists can increase patient engagement when they use patient-centered principles during communication. Recent research, however, has revealed counseling gaps in audiology that could be detrimental to the intervention process. The present study sought to understand the extent patient-centered communication strategies were used during hearing device monitoring visits by analyzing audio recordings. Counseling portions of the appointments were transcribed using conversation analysis. Missed opportunities were observed, including not validating patients' emotional concerns, providing technical responses to emotional concerns, providing information without determining patient desire for the information, and not engaging the patient in …
