As textbook prices and tuition continue to soar, academic libraries offering textbooks as part of their circulating or reserves collections are valuable contributors to student recruitment and retention. Students need affordable and convenient access to textbooks for reasons including delayed financial aid, personal economic hardships, and just-in-time use. Textbooks at the library can fill those needs. Criss Library’s Summer 2017 Textbook Reserves Pilot Project brought together a team from several departments across campus, selected textbooks for a small number of general education courses, and marketed the program to our student success outreach partners. Social and emotional learning (SEL) programs have become increasingly popular during last 20 years, and have shown to reduce risky behaviors (i.e., substance use), improve communication skills, academic performance, and relationships among students of all ages when implemented in schools (Weissberg, Durlak, Domitrovich, & Gullotta, 2015; Durlak, Weissberg, Dymnicki, Taylor, & Schellinger, 2011). Although the benefits of SEL programs are significant, the issue of implementation fidelity often arises. Motivated forgetting is the idea that people can block out, or forget, upsetting or traumatic memories, because there is a motivation to do so. Some researchers have cited directed forgetting studies using trauma-related words as evidence for the theory of motivated forgetting of trauma. In the current article subjects used the list method directed forgetting paradigm with both trauma-related words and positive words. After one list of words was presented subjects were directed to forget the words previously learned, and they then received another list of words. Many ecosystem processes that influence Earth system feedbacks - vegetation growth, water and nutrient cycling, disturbance regimes - are strongly influenced by multidecadal- to millennial-scale climate variations that cannot be directly observed. Paleoclimate records provide information about these variations, forming the basis of our understanding and modeling of them. Fossil pollen records are abundant in the NE US, but cannot simultaneously provide information about paleoclimate and past vegetation in a modeling context because this leads to circular logic. If pollen data are used to constrain past vegetation changes, then the remaining paleoclimate archives in the northeastern US (NE US) are …

When President Donald Trump took office in January, it was unclear whether the bombast from his campaign would translate into an aggressive new strategy against terrorism. At campaign rallies he pledged to “bomb the hell” out of the Islamic State. He openly mused about killing the families of terrorists, a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits violence against noncombatants.

More than 6000 seafarers have been held hostage by pirates in the last ten years. There is a small but developing body of research showing that these seafarers may face lasting challenges in recovery. However, current studies on this question have been limited by a lack of comparison groups, a lack of statistical power, and other methodological challenges. This study contributes to this body of research through a survey of 101 former hostages and 363 seafarers not known to be exposed to piracy from India, the Philippines, and Ukraine. Objective: The references are an important component of citation analysis. In this study, it is aimed to determine the reference analysis of Iranian Medical English Journals (IMEJ) based on WOS, Scopus and PubMed journal selection criteria.

Methods: This study is a descriptive quantitative analysis which deals with the last issues of 52 numbers of IMEJ which haven't been indexed in WOS, Scopus, and PubMed. The data were collected observing the journals data provider websites and then entered into a checklist tool. MS Excel software was used for data analysis.

Results: About 88.5% of journals had their own reference style. In …

A growing body of evidence links differing managerial practices, specifically ones addressing environmental sustainability and the management of people, to variations in performance observed across firms and countries. Firms (and by extension jurisdictions) that invest in better environmental policies (sustainability) and that empower workers (inclusivity) tend to outperform, over the long run, those that do not. Despite the gains associated with these inclusive and sustainable management techniques, large differences in the adoption of even the most basic management practices persist. This short commentary examines youth unemployment in Canada and offers four solutions for increasing youth employment and creating a stronger, safer society: (1) increase participation rates in post-secondary education; (2) provide employment readiness and job placement through youth employment services programs; (3) enhance high school curriculums to better prepare youth for employment; and (4) adopt best practices and policies from leading nations and organizations.

Scholarly analysis of gambling in the James Bond films is rare, despite the multitude of topics in Bondology and the fictional agent’s global fame. The odd commentary in gambling scholarship criticizes the franchise from the perspective of harm prevention. This article counters both groups of scholars with a qualitative interpretation of Bond’s gambling habits and the role of gambling and risk taking in the film series. A basic toolkit of visual methodologies is applied to the 24 EON-produced Bond films released in 1962–2015. Institutional digital repositories provide open access to research outputs created within a university or research institution. Many institutions currently support open access by paying article processing charges (APC) for their affiliated faculty and researchers. The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Libraries started the Open Access (OA) Fund program in 2014 to help cover the APC of tenure-track UNO authors. The fundamental goals of the UNO OA Fund is to include and encourage the UNO community to publish their research in an OA journal and platform, DigitalCommons@UNO (http://digitalcommons.unomaha.edu/).
