The Significance Of The Variation Theory In Cross-Cultural Communication, Yi Wan
The Significance Of The Variation Theory In Cross-Cultural Communication, Yi Wan
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In her article "The Significance of the Variation Theory in Cross-Cultural Communication" Yi Wan analyzes some problems that East-West Comparative Literature, as a discipline, has encountered and discusses the significance of the development of the Variation Theory, proposed by Shunqing Cao. The author aims to explore two important points of this new platform, namely, heterogeneity and variation, and compares this new perspective to the French School, which is based on "influences" and the American School which is based on "analogies." By investigating the variations of literary texts or theories during the course of cross-civilization communication from the perspectives of imagology …

The Futures Of Comparative Literature Envisioned By Chinese Comparatists, Sheng Meng
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In their article "The Futures of Comparative Literature Envisioned by Chinese Comparatists" Sheng Meng and Yue Chen discuss the future of Comparative Literature from the perspective of Chinese comparatists. They argue that in response to the latest rhetoric around the crisis and death of Comparative Literature as a discipline, Chinese comparatists have fallen into four major representative groups. However, the most ambitious …

Animal Welfare: A Contemporary Understanding Demands A Contemporary Approach To Behavior And Training, E. Anne Mcbride, David J. Montgomery
People and Animals: The International Journal of Research and Practice
Contemporary understanding of One Welfare highlights the intrinsic link between animal and human welfare and ethics, regarding physical and psychological well-being as equally important. These principles apply to all animals we keep, regardless of why we keep them. One factor influencing psychological welfare is how animals are prepared for their life, including how they are taught (trained) to behave. Where such preparation is lacking or inappropriate methods are used, animals will be fearful and/or frustrated, resulting in impaired welfare, problematic behavior, and potential injury to humans and other animals. How animals are trained and by whom are the focus of …
Using Technology To Facilitate Pre‐Acquisition Workflows For Electronic Resources, Paoshan W. Yue
Using Technology To Facilitate Pre‐Acquisition Workflows For Electronic Resources, Paoshan W. Yue
Charleston Library Conference
Investigation of new e‐resource requests before a purchase decision is made can be very complex, potentially involving gathering information from various parties (publishers/vendors, library stakeholders), setting up a trial, gathering trial feedback, and making sure stakeholders are notified in a timely manner throughout of the investigation process. The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries approached this management challenge by creating a dynamic online form. With its front end originated in InfoPath and its backend database and workflow controlled in SharePoint, this form allows an automated process covering request submission, product evaluation, collection development review, and selection decision. All the information regarding …
