The Government’S Influence On Sweatshops In Developing Countries, Alicia Whittle Rooks Mrs.
Siegel Institute Ethics Research Scholars
This paper will concentrate on the local influence governments have had on sweatshop factories in developing countries. Based on the literature reviewed and analyzed, it was important to discuss several topics surrounding government influence. Topics covered in this paper include: the ethics behind sweatshops, workers’ wages and their choices, government responsibility, and then ending with introducing the Framing Theory. This particular theory was useful in part because of the method implemented in this research paper. The Framing Theory is closely associated with media content because it attempts to compare what the media says on a particular topic verse what the …

Last week, I saw a group of people cross the street to avoid a guy wearing a Trump t-shirt. On Facebook several days ago, my friend shared some pictures of a big pile of pink hats made by her knitting circle. Her aunt, also a crafty type, asked her what they were. When my friend replied that they were “pussy” hats for the Women’s March in L.A., her aunt replied, “Geez. Sorry I asked.”

How Queensland Newspapers Reported Public Sector Information Reform, Rhonda Breit, Richard Fitzgerald, Shuang Liu, Regan Neal
Graduate School of Media and Communications
This article explores the role of media in Freedom of Information (FOI) policy transfer, using a case study of Queensland’s 2009 FOI reforms. A multi-dimensional analysis was used to discover how newspapers reported changes in Queensland’s public sector information (PSI) policy to identify whether stories on PSI policy were reframed over time. At a quantitative level, the text analytics software Leximancer was used to identify key concepts, issues and trends in 786 relevant articles from national, metropolitan and regional newspapers. At a qualitative level, discourse analysis was used to identify key themes and patterns from the newspaper articles. Both qualitative …
Nebraska Retailing Activity Changes Since 1990 And The Effect Of The Great Recession By Town/City Size Classes, Anil Giri, Bruce B. Johnson
Nebraska Retailing Activity Changes Since 1990 And The Effect Of The Great Recession By Town/City Size Classes, Anil Giri, Bruce B. Johnson
Cornhusker Economics
Retailing is an important sector of our state’s economy and is watched carefully as an indicator of overall economic performance. This retailing activity, however, is not evenly distributed across different town/ city size classes. Large cities and towns serve as retail centers for larger geographic areas as well as for some nearby small towns. In other words, small trade centers experience trade leakage relative to their population and large centers experience retail gain relative to their population. Relative retail activity can be measured and hence compared using Pull Factor (PF) as a metric.
In essence, PF measures the relative market …

Increasing Valued Behaviors Precedes Reduction In Suffering: Findings From A Randomized Controlled Trial Using Act, Andrew T. Gloster, Jens Klotsche, Joseph Ciarrochi, Georg Eifert, Rainer Sonntag, Hans-Ulrich Wittchen, Jürgen Hoyer
Psychology Faculty Articles and Research
Background: Psychological flexibility theory (PFT) suggests three key processes of change: increases in value-directed behaviors, reduction in struggle with symptoms, and reduction in suffering. We hypothesized that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) would change these processes and that increases in valued action and decreases in struggle would precede change in suffering.
Method: Data were derived from a randomized clinical trial testing ACT (vs. waitlist) for treatment-resistant patients with primary panic disorder with/without agoraphobia (n= 41). Valued behavior, struggle, and suffering were assessed at each of eight sessions.
Results: Valued actions, struggle, and suffering all changed over the …

Institute for Veterans and Military Families
This study focuses on many of the positive impacts of military service on military spouses, children, and service members. In practice, service members should take steps to educate themselves about the benefits and programs available to them. Military spouses and parents who are service members should also be sure that their children are receiving any needed support and enrichment by utilizing quality education programs, sporting activities, and childcare. In policy, policymakers have implemented and appealed many policies to reduce discrimination because of one’s race, sexuality, or sex in the military, and they may need to implement programs that clearly define …
Searching For Illicit Behavior Through Changes In Productivity: The Case Of Roger Clemens And Performance-Enhancing Drugs, John Charles Bradbury
Searching For Illicit Behavior Through Changes In Productivity: The Case Of Roger Clemens And Performance-Enhancing Drugs, John Charles Bradbury
Faculty Articles
Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens has been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs to boost his performance. If Clemens used ergogenic aids consistent with the accusations of use, then unusual changes in productivity may be evident in his performance record. Two previous studies have examined Clemens’s career and reached conflicting conclusions: Bradlow et al. (2008) declares Clemens’s career to be “atypical” while Albert (2009) finds Clemens’s productivity to be unusually strong but similar to other pitchers who have not been linked with performance-enhancing drugs. This study examines Clemens’s performance at times of alleged use and over his career and finds …
