Depression In Low-Income Adolescents: Guidelines For School-Based Depression Intervention Programs, Gopika Hari
Depression In Low-Income Adolescents: Guidelines For School-Based Depression Intervention Programs, Gopika Hari
Virginias Collegiate Honors Council Conference
Studies reveal that low income is a significant risk factor for depression and only roughly 25% of children with mental illnesses receive adequate help, the majority of which comes from schools. This study establishes guidelines for depression intervention programs in low-income high schools through a literature review of current practices. This study found that a multi-layered approach with screening, universal education, and high-risk intervention is most effective. Screening should be conducted with a modified PHQ-a test and timely clinical interviews by school psychologists. All students and teachers should receive universal depression education curriculum consisting of principles like depression literacy and …

Library Faculty Scholarship
Our lives are continuously affected by the information that we encounter in ever-increasing volume. The growing awareness of the dangers of uncritical information consumption (e.g. “fake news”) heightens the relevancy of questions investigating the nature of truth and fact. This anxiety manifests on a more personal level in terms of our vulnerable digital selves—identities can be stolen, personal archives can be lost. Anxiety is deeply personal but can affect public lives, professional lives, teaching, and scholarship as it leads to a loss of nuance and an unwillingness to participate in information creation and exchange. Our personal lives suffer, and so …

Consumer Appeal Of Injection Iml Packaging Vs. Similarly Decorated Glass Jars, Composite Cans, And Metal Cans Using Eye Tracking Technology, John King, Julie C. Rice, Andrew Hurley
Journal of Applied Packaging Research
Customers shopped for a set of control packages (i.e. decorated composite cans, metal cans, and glass jars) vs. similarly decorated experimental packaging {i.e. injection in-mold labeled (IML) plastic containers} in CUShopTM. Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics, Clemson University. The objective was to determine if IML decoration affected a shopper’s point of sale interest vs. non-IML methods of package decoration. Eighty-one volunteer participants wore eye tracking glasses and shopped for 5 products (3 of interest) over three days. Day one, control packaging data was collected; day two, IML packaging data was collected; day three, control and IML …

1972 - The Old World Background Of The Irrigation System Of San Antonio, Texas (Southwestern Studies Series: No 35); Glick, Thomas F.
Miscellaneous Publications
An in depth work that compares the Old-World irrigation systems established in the late fifteenth century on the islands off Spain (Canary Islands) and the technology/works applied in "New Spain," most notably, in the San Antonio, Texas, region. The Spaniards brought with them arid-land techniques, including technology and institutional framework for irrigation and distribution of water. Thomas Glick shows how the settlers adapted the Old-World irrigation principles and practices introduced into Spain by the Muslims in the Middle Ages while embracing other irrigation methods in their new environment.

Criss Library Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
Archivists and librarians from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) propose a poster for colleagues who promote, or would like to promote, educational and archival material through exhibits using digital platforms. It is intended for archivists and librarians who are not experts in this area and lack abundant IT support, but seek to use various technologies to expand engagement and outreach in the course of their jobs. Our content would be threefold:
1) Not all digital platforms are suitable for promotion of all types of material. Each comes with benefits and drawbacks. We will discuss our use of Omeka, …

Wikipedia is 16 years old this year. It is ranked the 5th most visited site on the World Wide Web. Many librarians and information specialists have a love hate relationship with this open access, free internet encyclopedia. Searching for information sometimes exposes: a lack of information, or even, existence of entries on specific topics; inaccurate information; or results in the frustration of a research dead end due to articles lacking references. Wikipedia is, of course, a collaboratively edited resource. A Wikipedia WikiProject is a group of contributors working together to improve the Wikipedia information and the pages on a particular …
Selecting An Alternative National Banking System Against Fractional Reserve Free Banking: The Greatest Modern Fraud?, Josiah J. Bardy
Selecting An Alternative National Banking System Against Fractional Reserve Free Banking: The Greatest Modern Fraud?, Josiah J. Bardy
Senior Honors Theses
This paper serves as a compilation and analysis of different banking systems with an emphasis on fractional reserve free banking. Contemporary academic literature has debated fractional reserve banking with revisited scrutiny since the 2007–2009 financial crisis. The Austrian School, drawing conclusions from the Austrian business cycle theory, blames central banking for boom-bust economics. One proposed solution, fractional reserve free banking, eliminates the central bank’s control for a purer form of fractional reserve practice; however, this system may be inherently fraudulent and unethical. After completing an economic analysis of the western world’s banking system, this paper then explores an alternative solution.

The Relationship Between Trait Emotional Intelligence And L2 Motivation, Jelena Vuksanovic
The Relationship Between Trait Emotional Intelligence And L2 Motivation, Jelena Vuksanovic
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Motivation is considered an important factor in initiating and sustaining the second language (L2) process. Since learning an L2 can be seen as a lengthy process, one that needs sustained motivation over a long period of time, learners need to be able to successfully deal with their and others’ emotions in order to generate and sustain their motivation for learning. The role of learners’ emotions and trait emotional self-efficacy, or trait emotional intelligence (EI), in L2 motivation and language learning has been a relatively unexplored area. To fill this gap, the current study posed three research questions that addressed the …
