The Efficacy Of Aircraft Type Club Safety, William Jeffrey "Jeff" Edwards
The Efficacy Of Aircraft Type Club Safety, William Jeffrey "Jeff" Edwards
Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering
The FAA and industry are attempting to make significant improvements in general aviation (GA) safety through voluntary measures largely carried out by grassroots aviation organizations, such as aircraft type clubs. While aircraft type clubs are principally focused on safety and education efforts, little is known about the efficacy of their voluntary measures. Research is lacking with respect to understanding whether or not voluntary measures contribute to GA safety. This mixed methods research quantifies the accident data of three aircraft type clubs and compares the safety of their members to nonmembers. A qualitative examination reveals why type club members may have …

Object-Oriented Interindustry Systems: Proof Of Concept, Péter Járosi, Randall Jackson
Object-Oriented Interindustry Systems: Proof Of Concept, Péter Járosi, Randall Jackson
Regional Research Institute Technical Documents
This document provides a proof-of-concept demonstration of an object-oriented approach to modeling an inter-industry system. The example framework uses a small CGE model based on a three-sector social accounting matrix (SAM). The economy is shocked by changing total factor of productivity in the production function, the new equilibrium is determined in classical CGE fashion, and the original SAM is updated to conform to the new equilibrium solution. In this way, the efficiency of the Object-oriented modeling (OOM) approach can be emphasized in the context of the computational simulations of interindustry systems by a simplified CGE example written in Python. Since …

Quantifying Undisturbed Lands in MInnesota's Prairie Coteau and Lac qui Parle Valley Regions
We employed simple GIS methods utilizing the Minnesota Farm Service Agency’s Common Land Unit (CLU) cropland data layer from 2013, along with 2013 USDA National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) county mosaic aerial imagery, to evaluate over 5 million acres of land in 14 southwest Minnesota counties, including all or portions of 10 counties within the Minnesota portion of the Prairie Coteau region and the entirety of four counties in the Lac qui Parle region. We utilized the CLU cropland layer to first identify and remove any areas with a cropping history, regardless of current land use. We then analyzed the …
The Innovation Makerspace: Geographies Of Digital Fabrication Innovation In Greater New York City, Kathryn Dickerson
The Innovation Makerspace: Geographies Of Digital Fabrication Innovation In Greater New York City, Kathryn Dickerson
Theses and Dissertations
Desktop digital fabrication technology has the potential to powerfully alter the economics, geography, and sociology of production. The desktop technology cannot reach its potential for widespread impact until it improves in quality and decreases in price. Makerspaces have emerged in the United States in the last eight years as informal social organizations where innovation in this technology may be occurring. This study examines whether innovation in digital fabrication technology has occurred, or has the potential to occur, at makerspaces in the New York City area.

Economic Interrelationships And Impacts Of The Aviation/Aerospace Industry In The State Of Florida Using Input-Output Analysis, Kelly A. Whealan-George, Tim Brady, Ian Mcandrew, Irwin Price, Robert T. Clair
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
The study provided a detailed description of the interrelatedness of the aviation and aerospace industry with principal industries in Florida and Volusia County (VC) using Input-Output (IO) analysis. The economic impact measures included not only direct economic output and industry employment descriptions but also described the multiplier effects in the form of indirect and induced impacts using data for 2012.
This research concluded the average labor income of the aviation and aerospace industry was higher than average labor income in Florida and VC. A substantive difference between the Florida and VC average labor income for the aviation and aerospace industry …
Foreign Teachers With Foreign Language Accents In The Classroom: Perspectives And Reactions From High School Students, Judith Justine Knieling Daouda
Foreign Teachers With Foreign Language Accents In The Classroom: Perspectives And Reactions From High School Students, Judith Justine Knieling Daouda
Theses and Dissertations
One aspect that has been suggested to hinder teaching and learning is a foreign language accent of a teacher. Some students complain about not being able to understand their teachers and attribute their academic performance to their teachers’ foreign-accented speech. An analysis of the data from an exit survey from the senior students of a local public charter school that employs numerous foreign-born teachers who speak English non-natively explains 1. if high school students think that their academic performance is affected by their foreign teachers’ foreign language accents, and 2. what students do if they think their teachers’ foreign accents …
