The study focuses on the need for putting in place library liaison programme in Nigerian academic library, with emphasis in the area of study. A survey method was adopted for the study, involving a sample figure of 122 members of the academic staff of the college. The Yaro Yamane formula for selecting a sample from a finite population was used. The study revealed six reasons for establishing library liaison programme in academic libraries. The study also revealed seven functions which library liaisons can perform. Six merits and six envisaged problems of the library arrangement were identified. To combat the problems …

Journal publisher's copyright policies can vary greatly, leaving authors at a tremendous disadvantage when managing their publishing activities. Not only are copyright transfer agreements confusing, they can also use misleading or threatening language. Because of this, professors often feel that they will not be able to publish their work unless they sign the agreement. Additionally, many faculty are not aware of their author rights or other ways that their work be could disseminated. This is particularly concerning for research that is supported through taxpayer money. The purpose of this study was to examine the annual revenue received by United States public community college foundations from 2008-2009 in relation to selected variables associated with successful foundation performance. This study replicated and expanded upon the work of Dr. Sharon McEntee Carrier a decade earlier. Linear regression analysis was used to collect descriptive statistics about the frequencies, central tendencies, and distribution of the data. It has been well documented that many college students have an alarmingly low level of financial literacy. These students have insufficient knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors relating to personal financial management. The recent economic crisis further illustrated that many young adults are not financially prepared to cope with the financial reality of being selfsufficient. Many states have implemented requirements for personal finance education in high school, and some colleges have included personal finance as a general-education requirement. Nonprofit executives and board members rate measurement of performance as one of three key organizational concerns. The academic literature, however, does not identify a dominant methodology for organizational effectiveness and governance. The intent of the Balanced Scorecard approach to organizational strategic planning is to translate the vision and strategy into performance measures. By placing the customer domain and the mission at the top of the Balanced Scorecard, the organization is identifying accountability between itself and society. The Balanced Scorecard has proven successful in nonprofit organizations due to its ability to align intangible assets to strategy. Successful outcomes are unlikely if …

Bring Your Own Technology: A Public School Technology Policy Case Study, Cynthia Bauter

This case study examines a large Texas school district that implemented a “bring your own technology” (BYOT) technology policy. The study considers teachers’, administrators’, and students’ issues and challenges as a result of the implementation. The study finds that although this policy is aligned with national and state technology integration standards for education, it is problematic in reality. Questions are raised about equity and adequacy, the need for professional development to deal with implementation, and the intention versus the reality of BYOT policies.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) courses that teach individuals to “live in the present moment” have been shown to improve health and well-being; however, there seems to be very little research into how MBSR may affect the way we think about the nature of knowledge, also known as epistemology. The researchers developed this study in an effort to determine if MBSR techniques would have an impact on personal epistemological beliefs and the implications for academic program administration. Teacher turnover is costly in its financial implications and negative impact on student learning. Recent studies demonstrate that many teachers choose to transfer to a more preferable work setting or leave the field. By employing a nested design using Hierarchal Linear Modeling data from the most recent complete Schools and Staffing Survey 2007-2008 (SASS) by NCES, the researchers found indications that school-level contextual factors, such as teacher influence on school, teacher perception of control, and teacher perceived support play a significant role in teachers’ intentions to leave or remain in the field. By integrating group projects into the curriculum, educators can seize the opportunity to provide students not only with marketable skills, but the chance to deepening their understanding of a given topic or subject matter by learning from one another. Designing an effective group project, however, is a challenging task. In the current paper, I utilize results from a student survey on characteristics of effective groups to design an applied group project and describe six key lessons learned by incorporating student feedback into group project design.

Monitoring Students And Enforcing Information Technology Use Policies In Universities, Jimmy D. Speers

This paper presents the results of an Internet survey of university Information Technology (IT) managers on the use/abuse of IT resources by a university’s students. The survey sought data on university size, public/private organization, whether there were policies in place on acceptable use of IT resources, possible student use and actions, and finally how IT resources were monitored if they were monitored. Results revealed that most universities had policies on the proper use of IT resources but were very unlikely to monitor use/abuse of IT resources mainly due to a lack of personnel.
