Economic Development
Over 7,000 business establishments in Ohio employ 120,626 people in the Insurance Industry. Employment is expected to grow 1% a year to 2015, adding 6,323 workers, outpacing the national growth rate. In an analysis of the top ten states by employment size and industry concentration, Ohio is expected to grow at the second fastest pace.
Every year, the Insurance Industry has roughly 2,000 job openings for new and replacement jobs. The core of the industry is found in five occupations: insurance sales agents; claims adjusters, examiners, and investigators; insurance underwriters; insurance appraisers, auto damage; and actuaries. The Anchor: 2011
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

No Place Like Home: Place And Community Identity Among North Country Youth, Genevieve R. Cox, Corinna J. Tucker
No Place Like Home: Place And Community Identity Among North Country Youth, Genevieve R. Cox, Corinna J. Tucker
Carsey Publications
This brief explores the link between rural youths’ identification with their community, their self-esteem, and their future plans. The panel study of New Hampshire’s Coos County youth offers a snapshot into the dynamics of a population that is developing its identity in a region that is undergoing an identity transformation of its own. Place identity may be influential in how individuals think of themselves and their futures, particularly for youth in the process of forming an identity. The study reveals the importance of developing community programs and activities for youth that create social ties to form a positive identification with …

Enso And Iod Teleconnections For African Ecosystems: Evidence Of Destructive Interference Between Climate Oscillations, Christopher A. Williams, N. P. Hanan
Enso And Iod Teleconnections For African Ecosystems: Evidence Of Destructive Interference Between Climate Oscillations, Christopher A. Williams, N. P. Hanan
Geography
Rainfall and vegetation across Africa are known to resonate with the coupled ocean-atmosphere phenomena of El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). However, the regional-scale implications of sea surface temperature variability for Africa's photosyntheis have received little focused attention, particularly in the case of IOD. Furthermore, studies exploring the interactive effects of ENSO and IOD when coincident are lacking. This analysis uses remotely sensed vegetation change plus a land surface model driven with observed meteorology to investigate how rainfall, vegetation, and photosynthesis across Africa respond to these climate oscillations. In addition to the relatively well-known ENSO …

Evaluation Of Innovative Bicycle Facilities: Sw Broadway Cycle Track And Sw Stark/Oak Street Buffered Bike Lanes, Christopher Michael Monsere, Nathan Mcneil, Jennifer Dill
Urban Studies and Planning Faculty Publications and Presentations
Two innovative bicycle facilities installed in late summer and early fall 2009 in downtown Portland by the City of Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) were evaluated to understand how they are functioning on multiple levels. All of these facilities involved removing a motor vehicle lane by restriping to provide additional roadway space to bicyclists. The facilities include:
- A cycle track (a seven-foot bike lane separated from motor vehicle traffic by a row of parked cars and a painted three-foot pedestrian buffer), on SW Broadway from SW Clay to SW Jackson through the Portland State University campus, and
- A couplet of …

Statement On Essential Benefits, Sara J. Rosenbaum
Statement On Essential Benefits, Sara J. Rosenbaum
Health Policy and Management Faculty Posters and Presentations
The essential health benefits statute is unique. Because its legislative history is quite limited, the text itself takes on particular importance. The provisions of the statute differ significantly from the highly detailed coverage terms of Medicare Parts A and B. Similarly, its provisions differ from the coverage provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, which governs virtually all private employer-sponsored health benefit plans and which (with the important exception of the insured small group market) remains unaffected by the essential health benefits provision. In referencing broad benefit categories, the essential health benefits statute bears some resemblance to the structure …

Kimmel Education and Research Center: Faculty and Staff Publications
Elevator pitches are created to sell your idea, business, product or service in 30 seconds or less (the time it takes to go from the first floor to the top of the building in an elevator). A great pitch has the power to help anyone...from a University employee to a new entrepreneur to a team working in a high-growth firm.
It’s important to develop and practice an effective pitch, complete with an awesome "Wow Factor," so you are ready to use it under fire (pretend you just stepped onto an elevator with Warren Buffett or Bill Gates)!
