Psychological Net Worth: Finding The Balance Between Psychological Capital And Psychological Debt, Michele L. Millard
Psychological Net Worth: Finding The Balance Between Psychological Capital And Psychological Debt, Michele L. Millard
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This multi-level study examined a proposed framework of psychological net worth that builds on the current psychological capital conceptualization of positive psychological assets provided to an organization by articulating the construct of psychological debt or those psychological liabilities in an organization. By describing psychological debt as a collection of negative attributes that occur at the individual level for individuals that hamper productivity, morale, and effectiveness in organizations, this framework of psychological net worth proposes the need to create a psychological balance sheet of psychological capital and debt. Psychological debt is described using the dimension of emotional labor, job insecurity, job …

Linguistics & TESOL Faculty Publications & Presentations - Archive
Earlier studies showed some word pairs in health discourse being conflated. If some polysemes are not recognized as fully separate senses, is there a pattern of use showing if speakers feel that experiencing one sense creates the occurrence of the second sense?

Pakistan's problems of governance do not require as much unknown remedies as they do political will to initiate bold reforms. Unnecessary leakages, high non-development expenditure , and a low tax base have strained the government's fiscal position to the point that without immediate reforms, it will remain caught in chronic stagflation, always spending beyond its means and adding to the unbearable deficit.
While formulating the National Commission for Government Reforms, we conducted a detailed cross-section study of the governance structure and related institutions, We gathered consultants and stakeholders on a single platform to hammer out consensus in terms of trimming …
Does Crowding Obscure The Presence Of Attentional Guidance In Contextual Cueing?, Steven William Fiske
Does Crowding Obscure The Presence Of Attentional Guidance In Contextual Cueing?, Steven William Fiske
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The contextual cueing effect was initially thought to be the product of memory guiding attention to the target location. However, the steep search slopes obtained in contextual cueing indicate an absence of attentional guidance. We hypothesized that crowding could be obscuring the presence of attentional guidance and investigated this possibility in 2 experiments. Crowding was manipulated by varying the density of items in the local target region in a contextual cueing task. We observed a significant reduction in search slopes between the novel and repeated conditions when crowding was reduced. Enhancing crowding eliminated the contextual cueing effect. These findings suggest …
Neighborhood Capital: A Multidisciplinary Holistic Approach To Neighborhood Revitalization Through Workforce And Economic Development, Dana Overman
Capstone Projects – Politics and Government
From the Alinsky and Cesar Chavez movements to Roosevelt‟s New Deal, poverty alleviation has long been a goal of governmental and nongovernmental organizations alike. The introductions of welfare, public housing, enterprise zones and food banks have all been developed with the intention of “helping” the low-income population. While some of these programs have provided improvements on housing, hunger and education, other programs have led to a cycle of poverty. Poverty affects individuals and families who lack the ability to provide for the means that are necessary to sustain a healthy and civically engaged life. It is for this purpose that …

Citizen Sensing: Opportunities And Challenges In Mining Social Signals And Perceptions, Amit P. Sheth
Kno.e.sis Publications
Millions of persons have become 'citizens' of an Internet- or Web-enabled social community. Web 2.0 fostered the open environment and applications for tagging, blogging, wikis, and social networking sites that have made information consumption, production, and sharing so incredibly easy. An interconnected network of people who actively observe, report, collect, analyze, and disseminate information via text, audio, or video messages, increasingly through pervasively connected mobile devices, has led to what we term citizen sensing. In this talk, we review recent progress in supporting collective intelligence through intelligent processing of citizen sensing. Key issues we cover in this talk are: - …

This brief uses data from the 2007 and 2010 Current Population Survey’s Annual Social and Economic Supplement to describe the distribution of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) receipt across the population and to detail place-based differences in receipt. WIC is a nutrition program that serves pregnant or postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5 (who meet certain criteria) by providing them with nutrition education and checks or vouchers for food purchases. The proposed fiscal year 2012 funding is $733 million less for WIC than fiscal year 2011 levels, and far less than …

Measuring The Perceived Attributes Of Innovation: A Study Of Capacitive Switch Technology In Industrially Designed User Interface Controls, Aaron B. Stachewicz
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this research was to test the applicability of Rogers’ theory of innovation diffusion as it relates to measuring the perceived attributes of innovations of capacitive switch technology in user interface controls. This study used a Likert scale to collect data on the following perceived attributes of innovation including relative advantage, compatibility, trialability, demonstrability, visibility, ease of use, image, voluntariness, perceived risk, and perceived resources as outlined by Rogers (1995), Moore and Benbasat (1991), and Dupagne and Driscoll (2005). Results indicated whether a consumer is willing to accept capacitive switch innovation in industrially designed user interface controls.

The Shrink With Ink : Narratives From Female Clinical Social Workers With Visible Tattoos, Caitlin Marie Mcinerney
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
The purpose of the study is to explore the subjective and objective experiences of female clinical social workers with visible tattoos in order to gain an understanding of how the body of the therapist emerges, influences, and impacts the therapeutic alliance with clients. Due to the lack of information on the topic, and a desire to reveal a deeper understanding of the phenomenon and its subjective meaning, this study used an exploratory research design. Nine female clinical social workers from all over the United States who had visible tattoos were selected using purposive and snowball sampling. These women participated in …

A Study Of First Language Background And Second Language Order Of Acquisition, Meghan Elizabeth Aitken
A Study Of First Language Background And Second Language Order Of Acquisition, Meghan Elizabeth Aitken
Theses and Dissertations
One major topic that often appears in textbooks on second language acquisition (SLA) is that of order of acquisition of morphemes. Much research has been done on the issue in the past, and a particular acquisition order has been accepted by many in the field of SLA for second language learners of English. This order of morphemes is deemed invariant and not affected by the native language of the learner. This thesis examines this claim, using an elicited imitation test to target nine English morphemes. The results show that a learner's native language does indeed have an effect on the …
Emotional Reactivity And Regulation In Current And Remitted Depression: An Event Related Potential Study, Lauren M. Bylsma
Emotional Reactivity And Regulation In Current And Remitted Depression: An Event Related Potential Study, Lauren M. Bylsma
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is thought to be characterized by emotion regulation deficits, including decreased use of adaptive strategies such as reappraisal, but little is known about the exact nature of these deficits and whether or not they are specific to the depressed mood state. The late positive potential (LPP) is a sustained positive deflection of the event-related potential (ERP) associated with responding to emotionally-valenced stimuli, and reappraisal strategies have been found to reduce LPP magnitude in response to emotional stimuli in healthy individuals, but this effect has not been examined in MDD. This study utilized ERPs to examine emotional …
