Over the last two decades welfare policies have undergone major reforms in Anglo-Western nations such as the U.S., U.K. and Australia. Central to these reforms have been the revision of welfare recipient entitlements and responsibilities and the emergence of a responsibility and obligations agenda. The essence of this agenda is conditionality and reciprocity, and it includes the threat of punitive sanctions for failing to comply with mandatory participation requirements. Despite its small size (63,170 sq miles) and a rather small population with a stable growth rate,2 Tunisia represents a rich sociolinguistic laboratory with a long history of bilingualism and language contact. The delicate position of Berber, the diglossic situation of Arabic and the increasing efforts for Arabization, the regional and social variation in Tunisian Arabic, the presence of French, and the gradual spread of English, among other closely-related topics, constitute the core themes of research within Tunisian sociolinguistics. This study will seek to find out if full-service agencies are more effective than agencies that focus on only one marketing component or separate components. While some companies and agencies have fully embraced integrated marketing communications (IMC), others think the cons outweigh the pros. Many companies do not think the process of getting the individual functional groups to work together is worth the effort. Modern Psychological Studies

Symbolic homophobia is a general negative disposition towards lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals, which is demonstrated in symbolic forms of prejudice rather than overt actions. Stigma towards lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals has transformed from overt forms of prejudice to slightly less blatant more subtle forms in recent years (Schafer & Shaw, 2009). Based on previous research, it is has also been shown that conservatives will have higher levels of symbolic homophobia. (Linneman, 2004), Thus, in order to assess the more nuanced forms of prejudice in relation to political affiliation, Study 1 created a scale to assess symbolic homophobia. …

In 2010 Chab Dai (translation “Hands Together”) started a ten-year longitudinal ‘Butterfly’ research study in Cambodia with the aim to understand the re-integration process of children/young people who have experienced sexual exploitation and trafficking. The preliminary phase was conducted during 2010 and the focus was to explain the research to potential After-care shelters and stakeholders working in the field. During this phase a preliminary survey of interested and potential Aftercare shelters was conducted in order to understand their perspective of (re-) integration and how their programs operated. Social media sites in general are gaining more and more prominence. However, not as much attention has been paid to social news sites like Reddit and Digg, which allow users to re-publish and vote on the news articles they deem fit for their own consumption. This study used media framing as a theoretical guide to examine the nature of the top-ranked articles posted on Reddit and Digg. Content analysis was used to determine the generic and issue-specific frames common in the said articles (n = 454). The Presidential Statement issued by the UN Security Council on August 3 condemning the widespread violation of human rights by Syrian authorities was hailed by some as signaling the collapse of the pro-Syrian "defiance coalition."

This "defiance coalition," comprised of the so-called "BRICs" (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) along with Lebanon, did indeed relent, begrudgingly, to growing international pressure for action on Syria. However, whether a statement containing little actionable content signals the crumbling of defiance rather than a diplomatic maneuver as calculations are recalibrated in light of developments is another matter.

A modeler must often rely on highly simplified representations of complex physical systems when analyzing associated economic issues. Herein, we consider a management problem in which a bioeconomic system exhibits simultaneity in processes governing productivity and damage. In this case, it may benefit the producer to sacrifice productivity to reduce the costs associated with increased damage. We specify empirically a structural damage relationship that explains the biological process by which an invasive species damages a host and estimate the structural model and its reduced form with an exceptional dataset on infestation of olives by the olive fruit fly. This work examined the challenges faced by Nigerian university libraries in implementing software regimes in their automation/computerization projects. The study argued that Nigerian university libraries have had a long history of attempts at automating/computerizing their operations, but most have not made appreciable efforts. This paper presents the findings of a study carried out as part of a PhD thesis aimed to explore the present status of/and problems faced by senior secondary school libraries in the state of Jammu and Kashmir-India. A questionnaire survey was conducted and 201 senior secondary schools participated in the study using a stratified random sampling technique. A 100percent response rate was ensured through visits to each school under sample over a period of two years (2009 & 2010). The results showed that school libraries lacked on all fronts. Content analysis of network evening news coverage during the first year of the Barack Obama presidency revealed coverage that was far more positive in tone than comparable news reports from the first years of the Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush presidencies. Both domestic and international policy evaluations of the Obama presidency were more positive in tone than those of the last three presidents to take office during partisan transfers of power. This case study examines the relevance of taking social and political factors into consideration when a corporation is making a key business decision. In September 2009, Simon Beresford-Wylie, the outgoing CEO of Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), was reviewing the company’s achievements — while acknowledging the latest public criticism regarding NSN’s business relationship with the Iranian government. In the summer of 2009, NSN was accused of complicity in human rights violations linked to Iran’s presidential election. The company sold network infrastructure and software solutions to the Iranian government, which then used this technology to observe, block, and control domestic communications. Should …

For at least the past thirty years, scholarship on international relations has been bewitched by a simple proposition: the polarity of the international system is a central cause of great power strategies and politics. The number of "poles" (dominant countries) in the system is like an invisible fence that shapes states as if they were dogs with electronic collars or a Skinner box that conditions national "rats." We analyze games of incomplete information and offer equilibrium predictions which are valid for all possible private information structures that the agents may have. Our characterization of these robust predictions relies on an epistemic result which establishes a relationship between the set of Bayes Nash equilibria and the set of Bayes correlated equilibria. We completely characterize the set of Bayes correlated equilibria in a class of games with quadratic payoffs and normally distributed uncertainty in terms of restrictions on the first and second moments of the equilibrium action-state distribution.
