Micro-Economic Foundations Of Economic Policy Performance In Pakistan, Ishrat Husain Dr.
Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse
The topic of this Conference “Micro-Economic Foundations of Economic Policy Performance in Asia” is both relevant and timely for South Asian Policy makers and researchers. I am pleased that I am able to share my thoughts with this august gathering about the microeconomic policy reforms in Pakistan with which I was associated for the past eight years. Having the interests of a researcher and academic at the same time I have chosen to present an analytical narrative of Pakistan’s reform episode. T

Information Repackaging And Library Services: A Challenge To Information Professionals In Nigeria, Enemute Basil Iwhiwhu
Information Repackaging And Library Services: A Challenge To Information Professionals In Nigeria, Enemute Basil Iwhiwhu
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study examines information packaging and re-packaging in library services. The survey research design was used for the study with a questionnaire as instrument for data collection. Forty professional staff available in academic and research libraries were surveyed. The study reveals that while the concept of information repackaging is not new, a majority of library staff are not adequately informed about it. Libraries in Nigeria can take a marketing approach to consider the potential for products and services. Repackaging information could increase user satisfaction, be a source of revenue, and help libraries achieve their goals.

Yes/No Recognition, Forced-Choice Recognition, And The Human Hippocampus, P. J. Bayley, J. T. Wixted, Ramona O. Hopkins, L. R. Squire
Yes/No Recognition, Forced-Choice Recognition, And The Human Hippocampus, P. J. Bayley, J. T. Wixted, Ramona O. Hopkins, L. R. Squire

Two recent studies reported that yes/no recognition can be more impaired by hippocampal lesions than forced-choice recognition when the targets and foils are highly similar. This finding has been taken in support of two fundamental proposals: (1) yes/no recognition tests depend more on recollection than do forced-choice tests; and (2) the hippocampus selectively supports the recollection process. Using the same stimulus materials as in the earlier studies, we tested five memory-impaired patients with circumscribed hippocampal lesions and 15 controls. As in the earlier studies, participants studied 12 pictures of objects and then took either a 12-item forced-choice test with four …

Sport As The “Opiate Of The Masses”: College Football In The American South, Eric Bain-Selbo
Sport As The “Opiate Of The Masses”: College Football In The American South, Eric Bain-Selbo
Philosophy & Religion Faculty Publications
Karl Marx famously describes religion as the “opiate of the masses.” Marx argues that religion is an ideological tool that legitimates and defends the interests of the dominant, wealthy classes in the population. It does so in part by placating the poor and exploited classes. Faced with an arduous and seemingly unjust life in this world, the poor and exploited at least can look forward to a more perfect existence in the afterlife. To reach that afterlife, however, one must peacefully and quietly persevere through life’s tribulation—respecting the life, liberty, and (especially) private property of others. In this way, religion …

The Anchor: 2008
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
