Effects Of Individual And Contextual Characteristics On Preadjudication Detention Of Juvenile Delinquents, Gaylene Armstrong, Nancy Rodriguez
Effects Of Individual And Contextual Characteristics On Preadjudication Detention Of Juvenile Delinquents, Gaylene Armstrong, Nancy Rodriguez
Criminology and Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
This study examined individual and contextual factors affecting preadjudication detention of juvenile delinquents in 65 counties of a northeastern state. Results demonstrated that while individual characteristics of the juvenile delinquents were important predictors, much of the variation in decisions was explained when contextual factors of the counties were included in a two‐level hierarchical linear model. In addition to the statistically significant legal and extralegal juvenile characteristics, our study found that counties with a higher percentage of non‐White population were more likely to detain juvenile delinquents prior to adjudication. These findings demonstrate the importance of considering both individual and contextual factors …

A former resident of the Fountain Inn—a retirement facility once adjacent to the Poynter Library that was demolished in February 2004—Betty Morris acquired a small scrapbook of clippings from a World’s Fair in the 1890s and various materials describing transportation issues in central Florida in the mid-twentieth century. The scrapbook contains clippings and hand-copied poetry, prayers, and letters collected by Ms. Morris's mother, Gussie Palmer Morris (nee Colcock), who was the granddaughter of Benjamin Morgan Palmer, a well-known Louisiana preacher from the Civil War and Reconstruction years.

The Effects Of Domestic Legal Institutions On International Trade Flows, Yu Wang
The Effects Of Domestic Legal Institutions On International Trade Flows, Yu Wang
ExpressO
The effects of institutions on international trade relations are of theoretical and practical interest. By following the research perspective that interprets institutions as the “rules of the game”, I suggest and study three domestic legal institutions---tenure system for judges, precedent law, and judicial review that supposedly have significant effects on international trade flows. My empirical tests show that both precedent law and judicial review have independent effects on bilateral trade volume while the proposed independent effect of tenured judge is unsupported. Moreover, my empirical evidences suggest that precedent law introduces its effect in a monadic fashion while judicial review (measured …

Do you recall the myth about the Golden Apples of Deceit? It seems instructive to me during these trying, tense technological times. Atalanta had been warned by the god Apollo that she would lose herself if ever she married so she determined not to.

A native of Lawrence, Kansas, Jones (1909-1990) moved to Kansas City, Missouri, as a young child, where he attended Lincoln High School and Lincoln Junior College. After living in nearly forty different U.S. cities, he moved to Tampa in 1950. He later settled in St. Petersburg in 1955, where he lived until his death. A photographer, publicist, and journalist, Mr. Jones worked as Florida editor for the Pittsburgh Courier and edited the African American pages of the St. Petersburg Times and St. Petersburg Evening Independent. For almost twenty years, beginning in 1956, he contributed a column entitled “Let's Talk Politics” …

Leading With Timeless Values In Turbulent Times (Toronto), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
In this speech, Pollard asks whether institutions such as Worldvision can uphold "timeless values" in a pluralistic society. He goes on to contend that they can if only managers see themselves as being moral as well as corporate leaders.

Ethanol, Oil And Corn, Richard K. Perrin
Ethanol, Oil And Corn, Richard K. Perrin
Cornhusker Economics
When will ethanol plants stop being built? Ethanol plants under construction in Nebraska will have the capacity to grind over 40 percent of the Nebraska corn crop by the end of 2007, and nearly 60 percent by the end of 2008. Nationally, capacity for these years will be roughly 25 percent and 35 percent of the crop. The plants under construction will bring total annual ethanol production to 11 billion gallons or so, well over the renewable fuels standard of 7.5 billion gallons by 2012.

The Internet: Complicating Legal Ethics, But Full Of Resources To Help You Understand The Complications, Maureen Cahill
Presentations
In the first portion of this paper, I will try to give you an idea of a few of the specific ethical complications that have arisen or are anticipated because of electronic information production, storage, and communication. My search of the Georgia ethics decisions and opinions did not turn up instances where the Georgia Supreme Court or the State Disciplinary Board (which issued opinions prior to 1986) have ruled explicitly on any of these issues, but in today’s climate it is only a matter of time before at least some of these questions come up in Geogia. I will summarize …
