The purpose of this thesis was to assess supportive communication practices as predictors of volunteer outcomes. As healthcare organizations continue to grow and expand services to patients, the need for volunteers will expand as well. If volunteers are supported within the organization they will become a part of the healthcare environment and ultimately can make a difference for the organization. lt was hypothesized that supportive communication by both staff and co-volunteers would predict higher levels of volunteer satisfaction, role identity, safety perceptions, and loyalty, and lower levels of volunteer bumout. Random Walk Tests For Kse-100 Index: Evidence And Implications, Abdul Rashid

The variance-ratio tests are used to test the random walk hypothesis for Pakistan’s stock exchange. The evidence indicates that the stock prices generally do not follow random walk over the entire examined period. This piece of evidence is robust during the second sub-period. During the first sub-period, however, the stock prices do not behave non-randomly. The absence of a random walk is implying that profitable trading rules can be devised. The findings also show that the Karachi Stock Exchange falls back to normal after being dramatically affected by a shock.

The critical definition of the concept, “the total man”, is encumbered by lot of difficulties – epistemic and pragmatic. First, a man qua man because he is a total entity, a complete homo sapein. However, the phrase “the total man” is used here in a stipulative sense to distinguish the liberally educated person from the pure specialist. Second, even in this contextual sense, the concept of the liberal-minded person is still a problematic. Time series analysis has attracted a lot of attention of researchers in recent times due to availability of sophisticated computing facilities. In this paper wavelet transformation and seasonal ARIMA methodology have been used to analyze and forecast time series. First we analyze time series data for gas demand of Sui southern Gas Company (SSGC) of Pakistan and forecast with Box-Jenkins SARIMA models then we look at waveletbased multiresolution analysis (MRA) and SARIMA models predictions using the compressed and de-noised signals. The extent of the influence of Indian media on fashion choices is studied by finding the underlying feelings and motives behind fashion product purchase decisions for young female adults. The results showed that the influence of Indian media on fashion choices is minimal and does not lead to an active search for a particular product. Rather, the exposure is used to make a decision when they are faced with a choice between a product seen on the media versus another product. Accessories are more easily adapted than clothes, which are too glamorized. The soap dramas are more popular among the …

This paper addresses fundamental questions of corporate governance that, why corporations need to accept responsibility for the social problems that plague our nation? Discussion of corporate actions (i.e., mass layoffs, high CEO payoffs, discrimination in the work force) and how they are ultimately responsible for many of our social disorder (i.e., crime, suicide, alcoholism, domestic violence etc.). Article examines the corporate ethics and international business and how corporate law inhibits corporate social responsibility. I also discuss the philanthropic role of corporations to examine different perceptions of corporate ethics and its social responsibility which is generally lacking in Pakistan.

The Influence Of Children On Family Purchase Decisions: A Phenomenological Approach, Usman Majeed, Nadia S. Banoori

This study was conducted to understand the influence of school-going children between seven to ten years of age on family’s buying decision-making in the area of North Nazimabad. A sample of three children was chosen to be interviewed and were asked a number of questions related to their influence on purchase. Later, their parents were interviewed to counter-check their perceptions about their children’s influence. The results showed that children did exert some influence on decisions, especially in cases where the product was for their own use. Using Individual Development Accounts To Save For A Home: Are There Differences By Race?, Michal Grinstein-Weiss, Kristen Wagner

Research indicates that homeownership is a key variable in wealth accumulation. Using data from the American Dream Demonstration, this study examines the performance of low-incomeblacks and whites saving for homeownership through Individual Development Accounts (IDAs), a matched saving program. Results show black IDA participants saved smaller amounts and less frequently. Furthermore, findings suggest institutional variables have different associations with savings for blacks and whites. Implications for policymakers and program administrators are discussed regarding differential targeting of race groups in the design and implementation of programs aimed toward increasing savings and assets accumulation for low-income and minority households.

Homeownership has historically been viewed as a fundamental piece of the American Dream, with up to 70 percent of households owning their home as of 2006. Yet it has also been demonstrated that nonwhites are less likely to own a home and that the value of their homes is much less than that for whites, even when social class is taken into account. This paper explores the overall life course patterns of homeownership and the importance of racial differences in understanding those dynamics. International voluntary service (IVS) has a significant and growing presence worldwide. IVS is a policy and program tool used for international development aid, humanitarian relief, and promotion of international understanding. In the last century, forms of IVS have proliferated, while research on scope, effectiveness, and impacts has lagged behind. We propose a typology that addresses duration, nature of service, and degree of “internationality.” Further, we identify IVS networks and support organizations that bolster the capacity of IVS sending and hosting organizations, and in this process create large and little recognized international institutions of cooperation. Notwithstanding the far reaching intellectual and practical contributions of Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy, researchers have suggested that it may not adequately address the role of institutions. This paper suggests that traditional measures of self-efficacy underemphasize institutional factors. This may have important implications, especially for considering the circumstances of disadvantaged groups. It may be productive to think of self-efficacy as a multidimensional construct that includes personal and institutional dimensions. Using an interdisciplinary approach, we examine how self-efficacy theory can be expanded to account for the social and economic realities of disadvantaged groups and lead to empirical work that can inform policy …

Economic Empowerment As A Health Care Intervention Among Orphaned Children In Rural Uganda, Fred M. Ssewamala, Stacey Alicea, William M. Bannon Jr., Leyla Ismayilova

This study evaluated an economic empowerment intervention to reduce HIV risks among orphaned children in Uganda. Children (n=97) were randomly assigned to receive an economic intervention or to a control arm. Data obtained at baseline and 12-month follow-up revealed differences on HIV prevention attitudes, educational plans, and child-caregiver relationship for intervention arm children relative to control children. Findings lend support to use of economic empowerment interventions for HIV risk reduction among orphaned children.
