A Qualitative Study Of Battered Women: Historical And Practical Considerations, Patricia Ann Terry

This study is concerned with battered women and how they define themselves and their roles in society. This study focused on those battered women who were physically abused by the men with whom they lived. Women who were abused emotionally but not physically were excluded from this study.

The methodology employed in this research project was qualitative. A one-hour personal interview using open-ended questions was the method used by the researcher. The sample consisted of eight women who had been married to abusive men.

This study examines the implications of Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA) on the practice of real property appraisal, with a focus on its application to ad valorem property assessment in Missouri. FIRREA was enacted in response to the savings and loan crisis, which exposed widespread weaknesses in the appraisal profession and the valuation process used by financial institutions. The paper traces the federal government’s effort to restore confidence in the real estate market through the establishment of uniform appraisal standards and the creation of regulatory oversight mechanisms. This study examines recent trends in the reporting completeness and quality of gestational age estimates derived from the date of the last normal menses (DLNM) as reported in South Carolina vital records from 1974 to 1985. Noteworthy improvements in the completeness of reporting emerged during this period with a decline from 31.1 percent missing information in 1974 to 6.6 percent missing in 1985. Completeness of reporting and strategies for imputing values for missing data were analyzed for their impact on the calculation of the percentage of pr?term live births. Poverty is as closely associated with the Appalachian region as coal mining and the hammer dulcimer. Appalachian poverty has seldom been portrayed simply as poverty, but as the expression and symbol of something larger. Images of poverty - poorly dressed, sooty, emaciated, barefooted, mostly white, rural children and adults beside cabin porches - are as closely associated with Appalachia as cowboy hats with the West or moss-covered trees and white-columned mansions with the Old South.

This articles stretches Derrida’s notion of writing by positing that writing itself might be thought of as "that which can be read or interpreted." This breaks the absolute bond between writing and human handicraft and suggests new ways of understanding the way we interpret natural phenomena. This paper traces this concept through numerous natural phenomena and suggests that perhaps the limits of meaning might have more to do with the interpreter’s range of understanding when it comes to natural gestures and "writings." This paper describes the initial steps toward the construction of an experimental, multidimensional inventory to measure reactions to physical disability. The Relations to Impairment and Disability Inventory (RIDI) was developed to provide information on eight patterns of psychosocial reactions to disability, namely: shock, anxiety, denial, depression, internalized anger, externalized hostility, acknowledgement and adjustment. Data are presented on initial psychometric analyses of the inventory. Analyses of the eight scales supported their homogeneity and relative independence, and the inventory's construct validity was partially documented. A moderately high degree of relationship was found between the Acknowledgement and Adjustment scales and the Acceptance of …

A case study approach was used to evaluate organizational change that occurred between 1986 and 1989 at General Dynamics Corporation. The purpose of the study was to determine how persons in leading positions can realistically expect to plan and implement significant, planned organizational changes.
