A Survey Of Theatre Program Budgets, Mary Helen Brown, Deborah Ann Barker, Larry L. Barker Nov 1988

A Survey Of Theatre Program Budgets, Mary Helen Brown, Deborah Ann Barker, Larry L. Barker

Association for Communication Administration Bulletin

This article presents findings from a national survey on the budgets of college and university theatre programs, focusing on annual operating budgets and supplemental sources of income. Results show significant differences by institutional type, with universities generally receiving larger budgets than four-year and community colleges, although the latter often allocated higher proportions of funds to productions. Supplemental income was most often generated through box office receipts, followed by student activity fees, individual and corporate …

Review Of Refugees: A Third World Dllemma, John R. Rogge, Editor, Robert Stoddard Nov 1988

Review Of Refugees: A Third World Dllemma, John R. Rogge, Editor, Robert Stoddard

Geography Program: Faculty Publications

The mass movement of humans takes on considerable geographic importance because of the associated changes in the source area, in the region of destination, and in the people who leave a home territory for a foreign environment. These repercussions are often accentuated when people are forced to flee their homeland and to beg for asylum in a strange setting. With the number of contemporary refugees in the world greatly exceeding the volume of voluntary international migration, the need among geographers for information about refugees is great. Refugees: A Third World Dilemma, a collection of thirty papers about various aspects …

Tomorrow's Research Library: Vigor Or Rigor Mortis?, Richard Hacken Nov 1988

Tomorrow's Research Library: Vigor Or Rigor Mortis?, Richard Hacken

Faculty Publications

The gamut of futuristic visions in library literature—from optimistic to pessimistic, from realistic to fanciful. Contradictory answers to recurring questions are found: Can we finally say goodbye to Gutenberg? Will the library card be replaced by the telephone credit card? Will book ownership give way entirely to information access. Will "books without pages" and "libraries without walls" necessarily lead to librarians without jobs? Is it possible to set timetables? After past crystal ball gazers are compared, contrasted, and critiqued, positive plans for progress are suggested.

Social Welfare In Emerging World Culture, Roger A. Lohmann Nov 1988

Social Welfare In Emerging World Culture, Roger A. Lohmann

Faculty & Staff Scholarship

The paper argues for the emergence of a world-wide universal pluralistic culture, in which a common core of humanitarian values will eventually be institutionalized in the major institutions of each society in ways which are consistent with the unique historical, cultural, economic and political context of that society. It is this process of adaptation of universal, or at least trans-cultural, values to the unique circumstances of individual cultures which can be called "indigenization".
