In the fall of 2016, I undertook to specifically target Graduate Assistants (GA’s) working for faculty in research assistantships. In early 2016, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) received the news that it had been elevated in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education rankings from an R2 to an R1 institution. The “highest research activity” rating was given to only 115 of the 4,665 universities evaluated in 2014. In Wisconsin, only UWM and UW-Madison received the rating. In response to this unexpected but welcome news, the university took steps to understand how it had achieved this distinction and, as importantly, how it would sustain its R1 rating for the next evaluation period. Thanks to an abundance of highly publicized data breaches, Information Security (InfoSec) is taking a larger place in organizational priorities. Despite the increased attention, the threat posed to employers by their own employees remains a frightening prospect studied mostly in a technical light. This paper presents a categorization of insider deviant behavior and misbehavior based off of the neuropsychological foundations of three main types of insiders posing a threat to an organization: accidental attackers; neurologically “hot” malcontents, and neurologically “cold” opportunists.

Archival staff have had to adapt and take advantage of new technologies to disseminate collections to broader audiences. We will showcase four digitized archival collections from Nova Southeastern University’s Archives:

  1. A chronology using the third party app, TimelineJS
  2. An Archives/graduate student collaboration of “Looking Into The Past” photos using geolocational information on Google Maps
  3. A donated collection of underwater slide photography with digitization and taxonomic identification efforts by staff at the NSU Oceanographic Center Library

The following presentation offer best practices and guidelines on how to prepare your Digital Commons’ descriptive metadata to be harvested and displayed into the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH).

Attendants will learn how to: 1) customize a metadata upload form in Digital Commons to display specific metadata fields, 2) choose the most appropriate schema to display metadata for particular collections, and 3) map the metadata to the appropriate BePress proprietary schema elements that can display correctly into the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) for harvesting purposes.

In 2015, there were 60 million people displaced by conflict and persecution. With refugees and asylees arriving en masse in foreign receiving countries, it is critical that host nations utilize methods of resettlement and integration that are both beneficial and sensitive to the needs of these vulnerable populations. This study documents an innovative win-win approach to community integration that benefits both hosts and refugees alike. The present research explores relationships between intrinsic motivation, choice, autonomy, and self-efficacy. Intrinsically motivated individuals have increases in perceived choice, as well as self-efficacy while completing tasks autonomously. New research suggests the type of goal an individual sets effects their motivation for completing a task and their self-efficacious behavior while performing it. The present research manipulates goal orientation with either an approach-mastery goal or with an approach-performance goal manipulation. We predicted that mastery goals would lead to increases in achievement motivation and perceived choice, because of self-efficacy. Feedback was manipulated using informative slightly positive versus very positive conditions (Ryan, 1982). …

George Washington University Libraries were tasked with transforming support for graduate students while taking into account increasing numbers of online students, off-campus programs, and students working full-time. In addition, due to librarian turnover and other factors, we needed to accomplish our goal with a reduced workforce and without reducing services and instruction to our undergraduate population.
