In a multidatabase system, schematic conflicts between two objects are usually of interest only when the objects have some semantic similarity. We use the concept of semantic proximity, which is essentially an abstraction/mapping between the domains of the two objects associated with the context of comparison. An explicit though partial context representation is proposed and the specificity relationship between contexts is defined. The contexts are organized as a meet semi-lattice and associated operations like the greatest lower bound are defined. Estimates Of The Natural Rate Of Unemployment Based On Married Males And Married Females, Pamela Bowers

The natural rate of unemployment is always estimated using rates of unemployment for married males, yet no substantiated criteria exists for this choice. This study compares estimates of the natural rate of unemployment based on the unemployment rates of married males and married females, which are used in estimating the Phillips curve. The results shows that the two series exhibit similar trends over the study period, but the female-based series is lower. This implies that the natural rate is not independent of the demographic group chosen to estimate it. The basis for the study is a 1993 article by Stuart …

This study was conducted to determine the economic implications of the proposed merger between the Village of Clayton and unincorporated Randolph Township, as well as critique the plan laid out by the Merger Commission. The focus of the study was to compare the expenditures of ten area cities with the proposed expenditures of the Merger Commission as described in their May 7 Preliminary Report. In addition, economic trends in the area were examined to fully gauge the impact of the merger on the Northmont area.

Manufacturing is the primary driver of major wealth formation and competitiveness in every significant economy. Therefore, it would appear that the more dominant role in manufacturing plays in overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the greater is the annual comparative growth rate of the economy. Manufacturing is 19 percent of GDP for the United States, 30 percent for Japan, 31 percent for Korea, and 35 percent for Germany, as of 1987.

The term "manufacturing" as used here does not include construction, mining, forestry, fishing and other similar activities. There are two general definitions (See footnote, OECD/2/World Bank. U.N. SNA).

This study is an econometric analysis of three consumer banking accounts from Bank One Dayton, N.A., the Total Demand account, Total Savings account and Time Deposits Account. The elasticity of demand with respect to interest rates of the savings and time deposit accounts is determined using multiple regression modeling and analysis. Other variables that are significant determinants of the balances of each account are also presented.

An analysis of the regression results for the Time Deposits Model indicates that the demand for the Bank One Dayton time deposit accounts (certificate of deposit accounts) is significantly elastic with respect to interest …

The thesis examines the relationship between telecommunications development and economic activity of nations. The findings confirm the previously established hypothesis that the causality of the relationship between these two factors exists in both directions. That is the development of economic activity at any point in time influences the development in telecommunications at a later point in time- and the development in telecommunications at any point in time also influences the economic activity at a later point in time. The following documents how I have been working to make agile manufacturing a reality at Whirlpool Corporation, the largest producer of home appliances in the world. Together with a Dayton, Ohio design team, I designed a quick response production process for a new range manufacturing plant. Several innovations made possible a significant improvement in manufacturing flexibility and order response time which will give the firm a competitive advantage in the market, leading to increased profits. The facility was constructed in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is now in production.

This paper reviews economic growth theories and studies the East - Asian economic growth characteristics. The descriptive analysis shows that the high performance Asian Economies(the HPAEs) have been experiencing continued rapid per capita income growth for over two decades. They have enjoyed the high savings rates, high investment rates, low population growth rates as well. The living standard of these countries tends more and more closer to the U.S. standard. Compare to the Latin American countries, the HPAEs’ achievement is very impressive.

Clear descriptions of job expertise are required to support applications and improvements in personnel training and job performance. This report describes a practical approach to task analysis that integrates the issues, content, and methods of cognitive science and personnel psychology. Cognitively oriented task analysis employs a breadth, then depth, strategy for identifying job expertise. Starting with a task-by-knowledge framework, job expertise is successively elaborated using interviews, expert ratings, and protocol analyses. The application of task analysis results to the development of written performance measures is described to illustrate the contributions of this approach to measurement validity. This paper presents an approach for integrating simulation modeling and analysis capabilities within the workflow management system (WFMS) being developed in the Large Scale Distributed Information Systems (LSDIS) Lab at the University of Georgia. Simulation modeling can be used for studying the efficiency of workflow designs as well as studying the general performance and reliability of WFMSs. We also discuss the importance of using sophisticated monitoring and animation capabilities, and the use of workflow management technology to advance simulation technology itself. Finally, we demonstrate a sample simulation where tasks and task managers are simulated.
