The effects of CS1 duration, partial reinforcement, and trace conditioning on second-order conditioned suppression were investigated, employing 64 rats as Ss. In Experiment 1, the clearest second-order conditioning was obtained when CS1 duration was the same during both the first- and the second-order conditioning phases of the experiment. In Experiment 2, somewhat better second-order conditioning was obtained when first-order conditioning had been under conditions of partial reinforcement, delay CS-US pairing. In neither experiment were CS1 suppression and CS2 suppression during second-order testing well correlated. I first saw Robert Crosby as a lawyer defending Duane Pope in November 1965. I was intensely interested in the Pope trial for a number of reasons. I was interested because, first, as a law student I found the legal points of interest, second, one of my law professors, Wallace Rudolph, was serving as an assistant defense counsel in the trial and, third, having a bachelors degree in speech I wanted to see what part speaking played in this trial.

This order established the Missile Intelligence Directorate (MID) as an intelligence agency assigned to the US Army Missile Command to “… develop, maintain, and disseminate foreign scientific and technical intelligence concerning ground forces, surface-to-surface, surface-to-air, and anti-ballistic missile systems in response to valid Department of Defense, Department of the Army, and Army Materiel Command production requirements.”

This order established the second intelligence production organization within the Army Materiel Command. The first being the US Army Foreign Science and Technology Center.

Rats were trained in 2 S^D-S^Δ discrimination experiments in which the effects of an S^D-postponement contingency during S^Δ and temporal regularity of S^Δ duration were assessed. Experiment I showed that discrimination is markedly facilitated by the presence of an S^D-postponement contingency of either fixed or variable duration. Experiment II showed that variable-duration S^Δ periods in a noncontingent schedule can also greatly enhance formation of an operant discrimination. These effects were attributed to differences in the probability of adventitious reinforcement of S^Δ behavior by S^D events.

The Minnedosa study area is located in the southwestern portion of Manitoba just south of the town of Minnedosa. It is 90 square miles in size and roughly square in shape. The Aspen Parkland, in which the study area is located, is characterized by gently rolling terrain and black soils. Mixed farming is the rule with emphasis on small grain production consisting of wheat, barley, and oats. Roughly 50 percent of the water areas in the parkland are ringed with aspen, Populus tremuloides, and large blocks of aspen are interspersed throughout the area.
