Ewing Kauffman Foundation exploring the strengths, weaknesses, and gaps in three major entrepreneurial ecosystems across Ohio- Cleveland, Toledo, and Dayton. This project's heavy reliance on collaboration with service providers was complicated by the ecosystem’s immediate responses to the economic duress of the pandemic and the influx of new entrepreneurs and capital. The Center for Economic Development at Cleveland State University, in partnership with the Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, is engaged in an ongoing effort to track the economic consequences of the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, on the evening of February 3, 2023. This initial report focuses strictly on effects felt throughout the city of East Palestine, with special attention paid to the evacuation area, and covers the period from the date of the derailment until two weeks afterward (through February 17, 2023). FRONT International Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art 2022 public art exhibit ran from July 16 through October 2, 2022. The FRONT exhibit takes place every three years and this iteration, Oh, Gods of Dust and Rainbows, was displayed in Cleveland and Akron, OH at a variety of locations through partnerships with museums and other institutions in the region. This study uses a multi-regional input-output (I-O) model to estimate the effect of the exhibit on the economies of the Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor and Akron Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Unwilling Gamblers And Loaded Dice: Considering Recession And Crisis As A Natural Effect Of Financial Capitalism, Darlene N. Moorman

Under financial capitalism, ordinary people are increasingly becoming 'unwilling gamblers' of a risky and unstable system. This paper explores the social and institutional change behind the neoliberal movement and considers how the politics and policies of neoliberalism have contributed to a certain environment of financial instability. Looking at the changing nature of the economy, the rapid expansion of the financial sector, and the persisting issue of moral hazard underlying risky and speculative behaviors among other items, reveals a financial system in which recessions and crises can be considered a natural, although not inevitable, effect.

Intertextual Discourse Research On Ip Film Language From The Perspective Of Chinese Teaching, Xiao Jiang

Chinese Language Teaching Methodology and Technology

Based on the theory of intertextual discourse, this paper makes a comparative analysis of the IP source texts, Chinese subtitles and English subtitles of IP films from the perspective of Chinese teaching. The research found that Chinese subtitles of IP films which compared with the source texts reconstructed the descending language of the characters, implanted popular contemporary language and culture, strengthened the language escalation of dramatic conflicts, and increased the sense of humor and entertainment of characters' language, so as to be suitable for Chinese teaching and cultural communication. Efforts to educate district energy users about energy efficiency have lagged those for electricity users. CSU surveyed district energy users in Cleveland, Ohio to ascertain their knowledge of and interest in energy efficiency programs. Most end users have a general knowledge about the sorts of technologies that are available, however do not understand their value, nor how to go about getting efficiency financed. The survey identified levels of interest that exist for adoption for various energy efficiency strategies as well as the preferred strategies for financing. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic changed the nature of work for many Americans, and the use of these attraction programs escalated quickly. Remote work attraction has quickly become a valuable strategy for municipalities aiming to bolster and target their economic development. Government Regulation Effect On The Volatility Of Top Trading Cryptocurrencies, Jodie R. Albert

I study whether news and the sentiment of the news regarding cryptocurrency regulation affects the volatility of Bitcoin, Binance, and Ethereum, measured as the standard deviation of the 1st difference of the log of the price with a right sided overlapping window of 7 days. I utilise a modified dynamic causal model with Newey-West heteroskedastic autocorrelation standard errors to estimate both the impact and cumulative effects that regulation news has on the three cryptocurrencies included in the study. My results show the volatility of all three cryptocurrencies react most strongly to negative regulatory news, with Binance being affected the most …

Coverage Impacts Of Work Requirements From The Arkansas Medicaid Program, Brett D. Huettner

I examine changes in Medicaid coverage and insurance status surrounding a work requirement policy implemented within the Arkansas Medicaid demonstration waiver. The policy applied to able-bodied, childless adults, aged 30 to 49, not enrolled as students, and was effective from 2018 to 2019. Eligibility was conditional on policy compliance. Taking a sample from the IPUMS American Community Survey database, I use triple-differences modeling to compare Arkansans subject to the policy with unaffected Arkansans and individuals from a set of control states. I find that the policy pilot group in Arkansas was less likely to be insured or have Medicaid coverage …

Embodied theories presume that concepts are modality specific while symbolic theories suggest that all modalities for a given concept are integrated. Symbolic and embodied theories do fairly well with explaining and describing concrete concepts. Specifically, embodied theories seem well suited to describing the actual content of a concept while symbolic theories provide insight into how concepts operate. Conversely, neither symbolic nor embodied theories have been fully sufficient when attempting to describe and explain abstract concepts. The feigning of psychiatric symptoms is of great concern in both clinical and forensic settings. Therefore, it is crucial to develop reliable and valid measures that are not only diagnostically valid but also allow for the detection of individuals who are attempting to exaggerate illness in order to receive monetary compensation or escape duty or work. The present study was initiated so as to assess the psychometric properties of a new measure for the assessment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the A-PTSD Scale. Supervision in the field of psychology is an essential practice that has significant implications for a supervisee’s success in their academic program, therapist identity and ability to become an independent professional. This study explored the perceptions of supervisees of how multiculturally competent they believed their supervisor to be and how much they believed their supervisor utilized feminist principles in supervision. Limited research has suggested that the modality of supervision and competence of a supervisor can be important factors in determining supervisee outcomes. This study examines the changes in four of Ohio’s economic sectors from 2019 to 2020 in order to analyze the effect of COVID-19 Ohio supply chains. Through this analysis, our goal is to identify changes during the pandemic and determine future growth opportunities in Ohio’s supply chain. The four sectors chosen to be studied are High Tech and Innovation, Agriculture, Manufacturing, and Health Care. Youngstown faces a transforming economy, contributing to a growing workforce gap in the region as legacy industries invest in advanced technologies requiring new and increasingly specialized skills. This report identifies Youngstown industries that provide opportunities for workforce development through analysis of regional wage and productivity trends between 2019 and 2020, as well as an examination of regional competitive advantage using shift share analysis. Then there are some topics that are viscerally personal, if only because the direct impact they have on the mind and body. There has been more than a five-fold increase in the number of life sentences in the United States over the past four decades. One in seven prisoners in the United States is serving a life (or virtual) life sentence. This amounts to over 200,000 prisoners. The increase has occurred against the backdrop of near universal condemnation by scholars and public policy advocates – many of whom are now advocating for the abolition of life sentences. Arguments that life sentences are not an effective deterrent or means of protecting the community have some merit. Yet, we argue that in a limited …

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are associated with a variety of negative outcomes, including criminal and violent behaviors (Milaniak & Widom, 2015). Prior research indicates that antisocial personality traits such as callousness may play a mediating effect on the relationship between ACEs and criminality (Baglivio et al., 2020). Further, the developmental period in which childhood maltreatment occurs may be related to greater criminality (Thornberry et al., 2010). This research project aims to examine how ACEs relate to criminality in emerging adults, with consideration of antisocial personality traits and the developmental period of experiencing childhood abuse.
