An ex-pat deminer was checking the edge of “iron bomb of 16 inch Naval shell crater” in a minefield when he trod on a Type 72 anti-personnel mine. The mine has a minimum metal content and he suffered a traumatic amputation of his lower leg. It is presumed that he had his detector in his hand at the time of the accident.

Brief Mood Introspection Scale (Bmis): Open-Source Data, John D. Mayer, Yvonne N. Gaschke Jan 1988

Brief Mood Introspection Scale (Bmis): Open-Source Data, John D. Mayer, Yvonne N. Gaschke

UNH Personality Lab

Mood experience is comprised of at least two elements: the direct experience of the mood and a meta-level of experience that consists of thoughts and feelings about the mood. In Study 1, a two-dimensional structure for the direct experience of mood (Watson & Tellegen, 1985) was tested for its fit to the responses of 1,572 subjects who each completed one of the three different mood scales, including a brief scale developed to assist future research. The Watson and Tellegen structure was supported across all three scales. In Study 2, meta-mood experience was conceptualized as the product of a mood regulatory …

Surname Analysis As A Sampling Method For Recovery Of Genetic Information, Joan C. Stevenson, R. J. Brown, Moses S. Schanfield May 1983

Surname Analysis As A Sampling Method For Recovery Of Genetic Information, Joan C. Stevenson, R. J. Brown, Moses S. Schanfield

Anthropology Faculty and Staff Publications

An effective means of retrieving ethnic information on a population sample for which there is already medical information may be surname analysis, but this has never been tested. Thus, two methods of surname classification were used to select individuals with German, Italian, Irish and Polish surnames from a sample of 2306 Milwaukee immigrants and offspring of immigrants. This sample represented only those individuals who identified all grandparents as coming from the same European geopolitical unit, and all had been previously tested for Glm(f, z, a and x), G3m(b0, bl, b3, b4 and g), A2m(l and 2), and Km(l). Selected sera …

A Guide To Revenue Administration For Small Cities, Institute Of Urban Studies Jan 1981

A Guide To Revenue Administration For Small Cities, Institute Of Urban Studies

Institute of Urban Studies Publications

Commencing with California's passage of Proposition 13, cities and towns throughout the nation have been compelled to re-examine their reliance on traditional revenue sources. Whether or not there has in fact been a universal "taxpayer revolt", the economic conditions of the past few years have caused both city officials and the public at large to seek relief from the increasing burden of the property tax. Believing that an analysis of other municipal revenue sources, whether existing or potential, might benefit Texas cities and towns, the Institute of Urban Studies obtained a grant under Title I of the Higher Education Act …

Challenge For Change: Institute Of Urban Studies Progress Summary 1969-1973, Edward S. Overman, Sherman Wyman, David Tees, Paul Geisel, Lawrence Schkade, Delbert Taebel, James Cornehls, Institute Of Urban Studies

Institute of Urban Studies Publications

The Institute of Urban Studies has in its first five years mounted a broad array of educational, research and service responses to the problems of communities in both metropolitan and rural areas. These initial efforts would not have been possible without the imagination and diligence of those who served with our initial research and service units, the urban affairs faculty, and more recently, our criminal justice faculty. What remains is the challenge of furthering the capability of our existing efforts and building in both the outreach and academic areas to respond to new needs in Texas communities.

Institute of Urban Studies Publications

This plan was prepared by the staff of the Institute of Urban Studies and represents its suggestions for the development of the Institute during the period 1970-1976. The objective in preparing the plan is primarily to provide a general guide for state government and university officials who will make the policy and budgetary decisions which determine the future role of the Institute and the scope of its activities. A selected group of officials is being asked to review and comment on the plan in its present draft form so that a more refined version can be prepared for more general …

An Institute For Urban Studies: A Preliminary Proposal, Luther G. Hagard Jan 1966

An Institute For Urban Studies: A Preliminary Proposal, Luther G. Hagard

Institute of Urban Studies Publications

No metropolitan area in the state is equipped with an instrument for continuing and comprehensive study of the multitude of problems confronting urban communities. Other urban areas of the nation have long had the services of "bureaus" or "institutes" financed and staffed for extensive research activities. Most such units are academically based and many are constituted as states agencies associated with public institutions of higher education. Their contributions in the form of basic research, data compilation, training, and information services have been of significant value in the search for effective solutions to urban problems. The Dallas - Fort Worth metropolitan …

The Emerging Rural Communities Of Moody County, W. F. Kumlien, C. Scandrette, Raymond Hatch Mar 1941

The Emerging Rural Communities Of Moody County, W. F. Kumlien, C. Scandrette, Raymond Hatch

Agricultural Experiment Station Rural Sociology Pamphlets (1940-1977)

During pioneer days most of the farmers' activities were confined within a radius of three or four miles--a distance commonly known as a "team haul.” In more recent years, improved transportation facilities have permitted farm families to go to village centers for an increasing proportion of their goods and services. The result has been the emergence of village-centered communities whose areas are several times as extensive as those of the old-time neighborhoods. This study was made possible through the cooperation of the State and Federal Work Projects Administration with the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. The project is officially designated …
