The acquisition of normal sex-role behavior is one of the fundamental tasks which goes into developing a healthy personality. More needs to be understood about the processes involved in adopting proper sex-role behavior patterns. How does a little girl adopt the feminine role and learn to be a woman? How does a little boy adopt the masculine role and learn to be a man? From the studies in clinical psychology and psychiatry, it is evident that personality maladjustments and certain forms of emotional disorders appear to be related to difficulties in sex-role adjustment. Mental illness is one of the greatest public health problems and foremost challenges of our time. However, because of improved medical practices and modern research methods, more mental patients are now being released and returned to society than at any other recorded period.

The mentally ill person loses touch with reality. Things that once were of primary concern are no longer important. Many mental patients become accustomed to carelessness in dress and personal habits. This state of deterioration often remains as a mark of mental illness, and the resulting inappropriate dress frequently limits the activity of the individual. The patient …

A Cephalometric Comparison Of The Chamula, Mayo And Navajo Indians, Norman C. Bunker

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Lateral head x-rays were obtained on selected samples of 24 Chamula, 29 Mayo and 39 Navajo Indians for cephalometric comparison.

Cephalometric evaluation was carried out by means of the Bjork analysis. Mean values for each of the Indian groups were determined and compared with each other and with the mean values of a group of Swedish conscripts studied by Bjork. The mean values were statistically analyzed and and subjected to the Student's "t" test to determine the significant levels of differences.

Results revealed that in comparing the three Indian groups significant differences do appear. They are few and general concordance …
