Psychobiomotor assessment refers to the use of a combination of psychological, biological, and motor-performance tests to comprehensively analyze the skills, attributes, and performance capabilities of athletes. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that there are significant psychobiomotor differences between successful collegiate football players in the offensive backfield positions and those players who are rates as less successful in these positions. Three groups of parents were given a nine week parent education course using Dinkmeyer and McKay's Systematic Training for Effective Parenting. Three control groups were given no training. Pretest and posttest data were obtained from all six groups to test the hypotheses: Training with the STEP program will change parent attitudes toward a less authoritarian parenting style, and these changes will result in fewer problems reported by the parents in child behavior. Using Ernhart and Loevinger's Authoritarian Ideology Scale no significant differences in authoritarianism were found after training [F(1,5) = 2.45, p = .123]. The main purpose of the present study was to determine empirically whether differences in perceived role conflict, role ambiguity, and Type A proclivities are associated with differences in perceived psychosomatic dysfunction. Moreover, an ancillary purpose of the present study was to determine whether differences in perceived job performance were associated with Type A-B tendencies and perceived role conflict and ambiguity. Data for 72 workers from all levels of two types of organizations (i.e., citizen protection and health) were obtained. What is the nature of the long-term memory trace of an event or episode (Tulving, 1972)? Recently, several studies (MacLeod, 1976; Nelson, 1971; Nelson, Fehling, & Moore-Glascock, 1979; Nelson & Rothbart, 1972) have addressed this question.

These studies made use of the savings paradigm, which is based upon a well-known phenomenon: Relearning forgotten verbal material is often easier than learning verbal material for the first time. The term savings was used by Ebbinghaus (1885/1964) to refer to this relearning advantage.

Effects Of Participation In Goal Setting When Task Ability And Goal Difficulty Are Held Constant, Melvin G. Cash

Undergraduate psychology students (N = 60) were randomly assigned to do-your-best, assigned, or participative goal-setting conditions. The sample was split at the mean on the basis of scores received on a clerical test, resulting in low- and high-ability groups. Specific Goals led to higher performance than did the do-your-best goals. With task ability and goal difficulty held, constant, there was no significant difference between the assigned and participative conditions on goal attainment, goal acceptance, or performance.

When the groups were split on ability, only the low ability group performed significantly better than the do-your-best group. Two reasons are suggested to …

A form for assessing imagery ability based on behavioral criteria in response to an imaginary ball toss was developed and its utility as a screening device for reading difficulties was evaluated. The Imagery Assessment Form was administered to 167 kindergarten, second, fourth and sixth grade children. Grade and sex differences were compared and the imagery scores were correlated with standardized reading achievement scores. Significant mean score differences were found between kindergarteners and second graders only. Significant sex differences in imagery were observed across all grade groups. This study addressed two issues in sentence memory: Hie accuracy of Gestalt representations of sentences over strictly associative accounts, and the role of syntactic, semantic, and thematic variables in characterizing the organizational basis of sentence representations. Sixteen pairs of SVO sentences were generated with a single noun shared by both member sentences of each pair. After a study period during which subjects wrote expansions of stimulus sentences, memory for the shared nouns was tested using subject-verb or object-verb cues from one or both member sentences of each pair. An experiment was conducted to examine the relationships among dogmatism, perceived fairness, and subjects’ affective responses and performance effectiveness. One hundred and twenty male and female university students were divided into three equity treatment groups: equity, and inequity with ability or without ability to control their inputs. Each inequity group was informed that greater inputs were demanded of them than were demanded of the other groups in exchange for the same rewards. The purpose of this investigation was to compare the results as recorded in mental ages of the PPVT and TACL when used with developmentally delayed children. One aspect was to observe how well the mean mental age from each test would compare with the mean mental age obtained from psychometric testing (WISC-R or SB-LM results). This is basically a replication study of the Azrin and Foxx method of toilet training utilizing behavior modification techniques. This systematic procedure was first applied to institutionalized retardates by Azrin and Foxx; therefore, the author's Intent was to prove that this same procedure would be successful with normal children who met certain developmental criteria and were twenty months of age and older. Twenty subjects were used in this study, eleven males and nine females whose ages ranged from twenty to thirty-six months. None of the children had prior toilet training experience. Based upon limited findings dealing with nonverbal behavior and personality traits as they relate to communication apprehension, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of communication apprehension with proxemic establishment, self-esteem, and dogmatism. The study analyzed these variables utilizing subjects who were statistically either high or low communication apprehensives. Interesting results were attained. An inverse relationship between apprehension and proxemic establishment was revealed, such that dyads containing low-low members established greater interpersonal distance than dyads containing high-low members who established greater interpersonal distance than dyads containing high-high members. Adult male gerbils with a mean body weight of 79.81 grams, were maintained for a baseline period on a normal Purina Rat Chow and then they were placed on a salt-free diet. Touch, defined in this study as physical contact including handshakes, touches on the arm or shoulder, hugs, kisses, and massage, is considered a fundamental human need and communication tool that extends across cultures and species. The purpose of the present laboratory study was to investigate the relative effects of sharing and nonsharing peer and adult models on the facilitation of prosocial behaviors with and without reinforcement to the model. One hundred and sixty second and third grade children served as subjects and were randomly assigned to six treatment groups and one control group. The objective of this research was to investigate relationship between dissociative and associative cognitive strategies for coping with the discomfort of running and running performance.

Subjects were volunteers enrolled in two Dynamic Fitness classes which were taught during Spring Quarter, 1980, at Utah State University. Class A consisted of 36 subjects (24 male, 12 female) and Class B consisted of 28 subjects (13 male, 15 female). All pretest, posttest, and treatment procedures were conducted during the class's respective regularly scheduled meeting times.
