Flea fauna in Mongolia is relatively unknown though the publications dealing with this problem are not few. The p·apers until 1966 are concerning ma.inly the territories delimited by natural plagua focis. Only in later periods, simu ltaneously with the intensive zoological research of the whole territory of the Mongolian People's Republic, the more detailed research of flea fauna on the whole territory takes place. Im Verlaufe der 1977 und 1978 in drei verschiedenen Höhenstufen im Gebirge Charchiraa-uul, Aimak Uvs, im NW der Mongolei durchgeführten ökologischen Untersuchungen konnten auch 64 Arten mit 1539 Exemplaren aus 15 Familien d er Heteroptera erbeutet werden. Die Fänge wurden vor allem mit Hlife von Barberfallen und Gelbschalen erzielt. Am stärksten vertreten waren die beiden Familien der Miridae und Lygaeidae, von den übrigen Familien wurden j eweils nur wenige (eine bis höchstens vier) Arten gefangen. In den Höhlen und Felsnischen der Hochgebirge der Mongolei findet man den Le iden und Krankheiten heilenden Wunderteer - Baragschun. Seit jeher wußten die Menschen den hohen Wert des Baragschun zu schätzen und dieses Material zu verwenden. Die Könige und der Adel haben dieses magische Heilmittel zusammen mit Gold und Edelsteinen aufbewahrt. In den heiligen Schrjften und Büchern wurde der Stoff als „magischer Teer", „Lebensstein" und „Wundetielixier" beschrieben.

Ковыли являются широко распространенными эдификаторами растительных соо бществ Монголии и входят в состав кормовых трав пастбищных животных (А . А. Юна.тов, 1954). В. И. Грубов, 1955 различ а ет 10 видов ковыля на территории МНР.

Определе ние видов ковыля, особенно в нецветущем состоянии, встречается с некоторыми трудностями.

Мы попытались выяснить некоторых отличий в анатомических строениях листа у некоторых видов ковыля, что облегчило бы выяснению дополнительного критерия в их определении.

Анатомическое строение листьев при поперечном разрезе у исследованных видов ковыля в общих чертах сходно с таковыми у европейских.

From the start of the Peel-harvey study in 1976, scientific research and extension have been closely linked. Trials, some involving major drainage works, have been set up on about 30 farms and several field days and seminars have been held.

The Peel-Harvey Study Group anticipates that farmer acceptance of the Department of agriculture's recommendations will reduce the phosphorus input to the estuary by 30 to 40 per cent over the next three to five years. At the same time farmers will benefit from modified cultural practices better suited to the sandy soils of the coastal plain.

Until the late 1960's, the Red River Gorge was just one of the more beautiful parts of the Daniel Boone National Forest. At this time, the Army Corps of Engineers proposed to dam the river for flood control, water supply, and recreation purposes. Intense opposition to the project generated considerable publicity and the Gorge area experienced substantial increases in visitation. The result has been not only severe environmental degradation but extensive overcrowding as well. These trends are presently overtaxing management capabilities of the United States Forest Service. The investgations, developments and guidelines for several hydrologic modeling strategies are presented. Investigations were conducted to determine appropriate event curve numbers for surface mined disturbed watersheds; and performance of four synthetic unit hydrograph models (SCS curvilinear, SCS single triangle, Williams and TVA double triangle) on 38 USDA experimental watersheds in 14 physiographic provinces using in excess of 270 events. A second test using only the SCS curvilinear unit hydrograph on 11 small watersheds and 48 events was conducted to investigate the excess rainfall pattern simulated with the curve number model. Geologists have used numerous tYPes of remote sensors for the interpretation of earth surface features. Two of the more recently developed remote sensors are SLAR (side-looking airborne radar) and LANDSAT (ERTS, Earth's Resources Technology Satellite, renamed L~~DSAT). The author undertook a straightforward qualitative research study to ascertain and compare the amount, types and reliability of the geologic information which can be derived separately from visually interpreted LANDSAT and SLAR imagery. This study is an investigation of the performance of a discrete latent state model devised by Paulson (1982) to account for signed-number arithmetic test data gathered by Birenbaum and Tatsuoka (1980). One hundred twenty nine students took a test which consists of sixteen item types with four parallel arithmetic items of each type. The present study utilizes the five addition item types of four items each; hence, there are four parallel subtests.
