Rhetoric, and therefore persuasion, can be utilized to impact society in profound ways. These communication devices can also be used for more sinister and nefarious purposes that can leave black marks on any society’s history. For the purpose of this rhetorical analysis, I thoroughly investigated three artifacts used by the Monsanto Corporation. This project attempts to show how Monsanto utilizes rhetoric and persuasion to convince consumers their products are safe to purchase, although there is no scientific consensus regarding that safety to humans and the environment. The goal of this study was to improve corporate outreach efforts for an educational program called Starbase Los Alamitos. This Starbase program is part of a larger effort by the Department of Defense to improve STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in the United States.

This study was guided by the following research question: How can STEM programs use relationship management theory to improve corporate outreach? Ouachita Baptist University will host Tiger Steel in concert in Mabee Fine Art’s McBeth Recital Hall on Monday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. Ryan Lewis, assistant professor of music, directs the steel drum ensemble. He said he seeks to celebrate the instruments’ history by ensuring that the ensemble “performs at least 50 percent Trinidadian calypso and soca as a way to honor the nation from which the instruments originated.”

One year after a near-fatal accident with a semi-truck, sophomore AJ Ervin believes his experience has made him a better person. He wouldn’t change anything, if given the opportunity.

That’s an incredible statement from a 20-year-old who required assistance from emergency workers to survive the accident on Route 42. Ervin was placed in a medically induced coma at Miami Valley Hospital after suffering heavy brain damage in the December 2, 2015 accident. He returned to classes in August 2016.

Mark Peters has been named the 2016 Brevard County Teacher of the Year and the Space Coast Teacher of the Year. Peters works as a physical education and health teacher at Port Malabar Elementary in Palm Bay, Florida, where he has spent all 32 years of his career.

Peters graduated from Troy High School and Cedarville University (1981).

Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will present A Festival of Christmas on Dec. 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. The theme for the 25th annual musical production is “The Spirit of Christmas!”

Ouachita vocal ensembles Concert Choir, Ouachita Singers, Women’s Chorus and Ouachita Sounds will all be featured in the performance. Assisting Ouachita’s student performers will be local children in the Ouachita Honor Choir and Ouachita’s Handbell Ringers. The pit band will feature students from Ouachita’s instrumental program.

Through a new collaborative educational partnership with the Xenia community, Cedarville University is changing the way it prepares future teachers. And the immediate benefactor is Xenia City Schools.

The new teacher education program places teacher candidates and university professors in Xenia classrooms at the same time, allowing students to deepen their teaching skills, while also taking college courses. The program also assigns student teachers to elementary, middle and high schools for their field experience, while receiving college instruction at the same time.

Ouachita Baptist University recently hosted the 41st annual Southern Region NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Conference and Student Auditions on the university’s Arkadelphia campus. Approximately 25 schools were represented from Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Thirteen Ouachita students were named finalists in the event, the largest number of finalists for any school in the competition. The finalists included two Ouachita students who were honored in two separate categories each for a total of 15 finalist recognitions.

This study investigated the knowledge translation practices of researchers in the National Agriculture Research Institutes of Nigeria and the utilization of research knowledge by policy actors in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria. Data for the study was obtained from agriculture researchers and the policy actors through questionnaires and interviews. In addition, bibliometric and content analysis were carried out on documents from the research institutes and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to gauge the transfer and use of knowledge by the researchers and policy actors respectively. Caldwell graduated from Ouachita with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and studied trumpet under Dr. Craig Hamilton, Ouachita’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands. She has since earned her master’s degree in trumpet and currently is completing her doctorate in trumpet at the University of Georgia.
