Starting a new ministry takes a significant amount of work, but for Cedarville University students Adrienne Krater and Claire Hoyt, taking part in a worldwide relief effort that brings hope and Christmas gifts to children makes all of the effort worthwhile. This fall, the two sophomores formed a new global outreach ministry on campus to support the work of Operation Christmas Child.

Dr. Barbara Pemberton, director of Ouachita Baptist University’s Carl Goodson Honors Program and professor of Christian missions, presented at the National Collegiate Honors Council’s 51st annual conference. The conference was held Oct. 12-16 in Seattle, Wash.

The conference attracts nearly 2,000 honors students and administrators from all 50 states and several other nations. The national submission process for presenters is highly selective, with hundreds of students and faculty submitting proposals each year.

Recent media reports have increased awareness of workplace incivility and bullying. However, the literature regarding workplace incivility and bullying in academic libraries is under reported and under researched. This study examines the current state of librarians’ perceptions on workplace incivility and bullying and evaluates the effects of bullying from organizational and individual perspectives. Bullying was measured based on the librarian’s responses to the Negative Acts Questionnaire, including both experienced bullying and witnessed bullying. The authors introduce a conceptual framework to understand the motivating structures, precipitating circumstances, and enabling structures that lead to bullying in the library. “Jazz is America's music. Teague is a senior graphic design major from Jonesboro, Ark. She describes her work as either bright and full of color or dark and twisted. For her senior show, Teague wanted to portray the two extremes as a spectrum.

A Cedarville University visual communication design graduate from Syracuse, New York, has traveled to every continent and over 50 countries since his graduation in 2013, documenting the experience with a camera. Retired Studio Art Faculty Wins Prestigious Art Award, Mark D. Weinstein

James Mellick, a retired Cedarville University Professor of Studio Art, recently won a $200,000 grand prize for his art exhibition “Wounded Warrior Dogs” at ArtPrize, an international art competition, held annually in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

More than 1,450 artists from 44 different countries attended ArtPrize, but Mellick’s exhibit captured the attention of thousands of visitors. Mellick, of Milford Center, Ohio, won “People’s Choice Best in Show” and “Best in 3D” categories.

Dr. Kim, an acclaimed pianist, is a specialist in American contemporary piano music. Myers, from Greenwood, Ark., and Walls, from Fort Smith, Ark., both are musical theatre majors. High school students who want to get an early start on college—and save money in the process—are participating in the Ohio Department of Education’s College Credit Plus (CCP) program. For colleges, like Cedarville University, partnering with CCP helps bring high-academic students to campus after their high school graduation.

Cedarville University has been participating with the College Credit Plus program since 2015. An estimated 45 percent of high school students taking Cedarville course enroll after they complete their high school requirements. And, statewide, more than 52,000 Ohio high school students participated in the program, saving $110 million on college tuition.

The Olympics might be over, but Grace Norman’s story continues to capture the attention of inspired followers of the Paralympic gold and bronze medalist from rural Ohio.

Norman, a freshman nursing major at Cedarville University, captured the hearts of many Americans when she competed in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Not only did she win the triathlon and place third in the 400-meter run, she claimed both medals within 36 hours of each other.

Ouachita Baptist University will host Arnold Rawls, a Metropolitan Opera tenor, in concert Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in Jones Performing Arts Center in conjunction with the Southern Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) conference. Rawls is an internationally known singer with a reputation of entertaining audiences through his mix of vocal and dramatic skills. His Metropolitan Opera debut as Radamès in Aida captivated the audience in 2011.

Dr. Ben Elrod, who served as Ouachita Baptist University’s 13th president from 1988 to 1998, recently was honored with the release of a biography titled Giving Until It Feels Good – Ben M. Elrod: Arkansas Educator and Fundraiser.

The 82-page biography, written by Rex Nelson and Ian Cosh, was published by WestBow Press, a division of Thomas Nelson and Zondervan. A book signing by Dr. Elrod will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ben M. Elrod Center for Family and Community on the Ouachita campus in conjunction with Homecoming activities.
