Resource Discoverability At The Crossroads, Cheryl D. Walters, Anne R. Diekama, Liz Woolcott
Library Faculty & Staff Publications
The Internet is changing how people find and use information. Users increasingly are discovering relevant resources outside traditional library systems and expect immediate access to resources at the point of discovery. These changes are challenging traditional thinking on how we should "catalog" and provide access to resources.
Panel discussion engaged the audience in a lively discussion of discoverability, trends in user information seeking behavior, the role of librarians in information seeking and finding, and implications for library system design.

Collaborative Copyright--Or Copyright Is Not Just A Library Issue, Jennifer Duncan, Susanne Clement, Betty Rozum
Collaborative Copyright--Or Copyright Is Not Just A Library Issue, Jennifer Duncan, Susanne Clement, Betty Rozum
Jennifer Duncan
Copyright law does not change often; the technology that allows us to use copyrighted works changes all the time. Faculty often assume fair use covers all use of copyrighted material in their classes (both face to face and online) and they become confused and frustrated when they learn of limitations in the electronic environment. Students rarely think about copyright; they are generally unaware of how their actions might infringe the rights of copyright holders or that they themselves might hold these rights in their own works. Beyond Research: Opencourseware In The Institutional Repository, Heather Leary, Brett E. Shelton, Marion Jensen
Library Faculty & Staff Presentations
Presentation given at the 2009 LITA National Forum in Salt Lake City, Utah on archiving OpenCourseWare in the Institutional Repository.
The main function of OpenCourseWare is to provide open access to collections of educational materials used in formal courses. The main function of an Institutional Repository is to collect, preserve, and disseminate intellectual output of an institution. Since OCW is a significant portion of the intellectual output of a university, archiving OCW in an institutions repository seems a perfect marriage of means and opportunity.
