This document presents the Cultural Resources Overview for the Harney Area in southeastern Oregon. The Harney Area combines three of the four planning units in the Burns Bureau of Land Management District. Most of the land in the Harney Area is located in Harney County, although a few parcels are just outside the county line in Lake and Malheur Counties. Almost all of Harney County is included. There are approximately 3,320,000 acres of Bureau administered public land within the Harney Area, as well as other public and private lands.

Seven ceramic types from excavated Anasazi sites on Black Mesa were examined petrographically in order: (1) to obtain an accurate description of the geologic tempering m aterial; (2) to determine if specific ceramic types from Black Mesa and the surrounding area share a common area of manufacture; and (3) to compare the tempering material in the ceramics with the mineralogical components in the Wepo and Toreva Formations in order to determine if the ceramic items contain locally available material.

Archeological Survey Of The Proposed Double Branch Interceptor Sewer: Lexington County, South Carolina, Jim Sexton

Research Manuscript Series

To assess the potential archeological impact by the proposed Double Branch Interceptor Sewer project for the City of West Columbia, the Institute of Archeology and Anthropology conducted a week long survey of the approximate four mile long sewerline right-of-way. The survey consisted of a pedestrian transect of the corridor to inspect exposed ground surfaces and a limited shovel testing program. Three sites were located adjacent to the right-of-way. If these sites are avoided during the construction phase, they should experience no adverse impacts. An archeological clearance is recommended for the fifty-foot right-of-way.

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

The results of archeological investigations in portions of the George C. Davis Site are presented in this report prepared by Ross Fields and J. Peter Thurmond . Stringent contract requirements and the provisions of Texas Antiquities Permit No. 237 dictate that this report be brief and descriptive in nature. Requirements such as inclusion of a detailed site investigation history and environmental data were excluded and extensive excavations were stressed in preference to detailed analyses and comparisons. Field investigations were limited by contract to 20 working days and the analysis/write-up to 10 working days. The governing research design was prepared by …

Initial discussions with the Michigan Department of Transportation regarding archaeological survey of the proposed right of way of U.S. 31, Mattbew Road to I-94, in Berrien County, took place in May of 1979. Contractural arrangements for the project were subsequently completed between Western MHhi gan University and the Department of Transportation, with Dr. Elizabeth Garland as Principal Investigator. Formation, expression, and function of world view were examined in the life and compositions of folk musician, Katherine O'Neill Peters Sturgill. It was seen that the institutions of home, loved ones, and heaven were dominant themes in the formation of her world view. When twenty-two of Kate's gospel and sentimental song compositions were examined for thematic content, they were found to reflect the predominant formative influences in Kate's life. An interpretive model was developed showing home, loved ones, and heaven to be unified themes in a concept of sacred order--a concept which stood to oppose and defend against the banal …

The survey area includes a total distance of about two miles extending east and west of the village of Mottville along U.S. 12 in St. Joseph and Cass Counties, Michigan. The village of Mottville is located in St. Joseph County. Three alternates have been proposed by MOOT for widening the approaches and replacing the existing bridge which crosses the St. Joseph River north of Mottville (Fig. 1).

Alternate A involves relocating the bridge to a position north of the present crossing which wo~ld have the effect of straightening the approaches in each direction.

An Archeological Survey And Testing Program Along Six Mile Creek, Lexington County, South Carolina, Michael A. Harmon

An archeological survey for the proposed sewage system improvements project by the Town of Springdale located 18 archeological sites. The survey involved an on-the-ground inspection of a 50 foot wide corridor along Six Mile Creek in the Sand Hills region of central South Carolina. Eleven of the sites represent prehistoric occupation: Early and Middle Archaic, Woodland, and Mississippian periods. Nineteenth and twentieth century homesites, a quarry, and an old roadbed were recorded also. These sites are interpreted and evaluated with reference to a predictive model.
