Atlantic bluefin tuna (ABT), Thunnus thynnus, spawn in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) and the Mediterranean Sea (MED). Spawning occurs within narrow temporal and environmental parameters. Efforts to characterize growth of ABT in wild conditions revealed a wide range of growth variability during the early life stages. This series of studies examined potential biotic and abiotic influences of larval growth from seven ABT cohorts, and identified several key drivers of growth for this commercially valuable species. Within a quantitative career, you are/will soon be challenged to create an overall value to explain a situational status. For example, socio-economic status, well-being, and in this specific example, happiness among sports fans. This talk seeks to discuss my previous work developed out from student research performed at NSU in its application to my first project for ESPN Sports Analytics, the College Football Fan Happiness Index (http://es.pn/2vmParA) . I will dive into the multivariate statistical techniques of principal component analysis and hierarchal clustering to create this happiness index from a slew of variables.

Predictive statistical modeling shows promise in accurately predicting academic performance for students enrolled in online programs. This approach has proven effective in accurately identifying students who are at-risk enabling instructors to provide instructional intervention. While the potential benefits of statistical modeling is significant, implementations have proven to be complex, costly, and difficult to maintain.
