Identifiability Of Semiconductor Defects From Lbic Images, Weifu Fang, Kazufumi Ito
Identifiability Of Semiconductor Defects From Lbic Images, Weifu Fang, Kazufumi Ito
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
The identifiability of defects in a semiconductor from its laser-beam-induced current (LBIC) image is studied. It is shown that the LBIC technique is reliable for detecting any spatial defects in the semiconductor material. Continuous dependence of the current measurements on the spatial defects is proved, and sensitivity is also discussed in certain cases.
Object Tracking Through Adaptive Correlation, Dennis A. Montera
Object Tracking Through Adaptive Correlation, Dennis A. Montera
Theses and Dissertations
This paper discusses the use of a correlation based system to track, an object through a series of images based on templates derived from previous image frames. The ability to track is extended to sequences which include multiple objects of interest within the field of view. This is accomplishes by comparing the height and shape of the template autocorrelation to the peaks in the correlation of the template with the next scene. The result is to identify the region in the next scene which best matches the designated target. In addition to correlation plane postprocessing, an adaptive window is used …
Examination Of Psychological Type And Preferred Negotiation Tactics And Strategies Of Contract Negotiators, John P. Hebert, Alan J. Meade
Examination Of Psychological Type And Preferred Negotiation Tactics And Strategies Of Contract Negotiators, John P. Hebert, Alan J. Meade
Theses and Dissertations
This research identified the psychological types of government and industry contract negotiators and determined whether their preference for using negotiation tactics and strategies were correlated with their respective psychological types. A survey consisting of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and a questionnaire concerning use of negotiation tactics and strategies was mailed to 2,000 contracting professionals of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA). During May and June 1992, 627 usable surveys were received. The MBTI results were paired with the responses to the negotiation tactics and strategies questionnaire. These results were analyzed on a microcomputer using the DBase IV, Excel, and …
Interactive Graphics System For The Study Of Variance/Covariance Structures Of Bivariate And Multivariate Normal Populations, Ronald G. Garlicki
Interactive Graphics System For The Study Of Variance/Covariance Structures Of Bivariate And Multivariate Normal Populations, Ronald G. Garlicki
Theses and Dissertations
This research created a graphics oriented computer program which was used as part of a Visualization, Verbalization, Algorithization and Mathematization (VVAM) learning protocol. The curriculum for this research was the study of variance/covariance structures of bivariate and multivariate normal populations. The program displays the geometric images corresponding to the various possible covariance structures. These images facilitate and encourage experiment-based self discovery learning. The program encourages the student to take an active role in their own education. The program created is self contained, calculating all the statistical values it requires to create the various geometric images. The students have complete control …
Trial By Jury Or Judge: Transcending Empiricism, Kevin M. Clermont, Theodore Eisenberg
Trial By Jury Or Judge: Transcending Empiricism, Kevin M. Clermont, Theodore Eisenberg
Cornell Law Faculty Publications
Pity the civil jury, seen by some as the sickest organ of a sick system. Yet the jury has always been controversial. One might suppose that, with so much at stake for so long, we would all know a lot about the ways juries differ from judges in their behavior. In fact, we know remarkably little. This Article provides the first large-scale comparison of plaintiff win rates and recoveries in civil cases tried before juries and judges. In two of the most controversial areas of modern tort law--product liability and medical malpractice--the win rates substantially differ from other cases' win …
Inverse Problems For Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor Contact Resistivity, Weifu Fang, Ellis Cumberbatch
Inverse Problems For Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor Contact Resistivity, Weifu Fang, Ellis Cumberbatch
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
Inverse problems arising from the identification of transistor contact resistivity and contact window location are studied. A one-point boundary measurement of the potential is shown to be sufficient to identify each from a one-parameter monotone family, and such identification is both stable and continuously dependent on the parameter. For a nonmonotone family of locations with resistivity given, similar results are obtained for measurement made on almost all boundary points.
Inside The Quiet Revolution In Products Liability, Theodore Eisenberg, James A. Henderson Jr.
Inside The Quiet Revolution In Products Liability, Theodore Eisenberg, James A. Henderson Jr.
Cornell Law Faculty Publications
"A bullet in the head of products liability reform." Thus did a lobbyist orally characterize our article in this law review, The Quiet Revolution in Products Liability, describing declining plaintiff success in products liability cases in the 1980s. From the coverage and criticism the Quiet Revolution received around the country and around the world, the trends we discovered struck many as surprising enough to be newsworthy and others as sufficiently threatening to warrant a special response. Products liability's sustained presence on state and federal legislative agendas warrants continuing and expanding the study begun in the Quiet Revolution.

Confidence Interval Estimation For Output Of Discrete-Event Simulations Using The Kalman Filter, Randall B. Howard
Confidence Interval Estimation For Output Of Discrete-Event Simulations Using The Kalman Filter, Randall B. Howard
Theses and Dissertations
Discrete-event simulation is computer modeling of stochastic, dynamic systems. The Kalman filter is a Bayesian stochastic estimation algorithm. Because of the correlated nature of simulation output, it is difficult to apply the methods of classical statistics directly when constructing confidence intervals of discrete-event simulation parameters. Through the determination of a dynamics equation and application of the Kalman filter to simulation output data, three new confidence interval construction techniques have been developed. One technique obtains an estimate of the mean value and its associated variance from an estimated Kalman filter. The second technique utilizes Multiple Model Adaptive Estimation (MMAE) techniques to …

Boundary Velocity Control Of Incompressible-Flow With An Application To Viscous Drag Reduction, Max D. Gunzberger, Lisheng Hou, Tom Svobodny
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
An optimal boundary control problem for the Navier-Stokes equations is presented. The control is the velocity on the boundary, which is constrained to lie in a closed, convex subset of H1/2 of the boundary. A necessary condition for optimality is derived. Computations are done when the control set is actually finite-dimensional, resulting in all application to viscous drag reduction.
Uniqueness Of Radial Solutions Of Semilinear Elliptic Equations, Man Kam Kwong, Yi Li
Uniqueness Of Radial Solutions Of Semilinear Elliptic Equations, Man Kam Kwong, Yi Li
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
E. Yanagida recently proved that the classical Matukuma equation with a given exponent has only one finite mass solution. We show how similar ideas can be exploited to obtain uniqueness results for other classes of equations as well as Matukuma equations with more general coefficients.

On The Asymptotic Behavior And Radial Symmetry Of Positive Solutions Of Semilinear Elliptic Equations In R N Ii. Radial Symmetry, Yi Li, Wei-Ming Ni

The main purpose of this paper is to prove Theorems 1 and 2 of the preceding paper, Part I, together with their extensions and related symmetry results. To make this part essentially self-contained, we shall apply the method developed in Section 2 to equations with radial symmetry. Combining the asymptotic behavior and the "moving plane" technique, we are then able to obtain the desired results.
