Differential Patterns Of Interaction And Gaussian Graphical Models, Masanao Yajima, Donatello Telesca, Yuan Ji, Peter Muller
Differential Patterns Of Interaction And Gaussian Graphical Models, Masanao Yajima, Donatello Telesca, Yuan Ji, Peter Muller
COBRA Preprint Series
We propose a methodological framework to assess heterogeneous patterns of association amongst components of a random vector expressed as a Gaussian directed acyclic graph. The proposed framework is likely to be useful when primary interest focuses on potential contrasts characterizing the association structure between known subgroups of a given sample. We provide inferential frameworks as well as an efficient computational algorithm to fit such a model and illustrate its validity through a simulation. We apply the model to Reverse Phase Protein Array data on Acute Myeloid Leukemia patients to show the contrast of association structure between refractory patients and relapsed …

In any scientific discipline, the ability to portray research patterns graphically often aids greatly in interpreting a phenomenon. In part to depict phenomena, the statistics and capabilities of meta-analytic models have grown increasingly sophisticated. Accordingly, this article details how to move the constant in weighted meta-analysis regression models (viz. “meta-regression”) to illuminate the patterns in such models across a range of complexities. Although it is commonly ignored in practice, the constant (or intercept) in such models can be indispensible when it is not relegated to its usual static role. The moving constant technique makes possible estimates and confidence intervals at …

Efficient Unbiased Estimating Equations For Analyzing Structured Correlation Matrices, Yihao Deng
Efficient Unbiased Estimating Equations For Analyzing Structured Correlation Matrices, Yihao Deng
Mathematics & Statistics Theses & Dissertations
Analysis of dependent continuous and discrete data has become an active area of research. For normal data, correlations fully quantify the dependence. And historically, maximum likelihood method has been very successful to estimate the correlations and unbiased estimating equation approach has become a popular alternative when there may be a departure from normality. In this thesis we show that the optimal unbiased estimating equation coincides with the likelihood equations for normal data. We then introduce a general class of weighted unbiased estimating equations to estimate parameters in a structured correlation matrix. We derive expressions for asymptotic covariance of the estimates, …
Ranked Set Sampling Based On Binary Water Quality Data With Covariates, Paul Kvam
Ranked Set Sampling Based On Binary Water Quality Data With Covariates, Paul Kvam
Department of Math & Statistics Faculty Publications
A ranked set sample (RSS) is composed of independent order statistics, formed by collecting and ordering independent subsamples, then measuring only one item from each subsample. If the cost of sampling is dominated by data measurement rather than collection or ranking, the RSS technique is known to be superior to ordinary sampling. Experiments based on binary data are not designed to exploit the advantages of ranked set sampling because categorical data typically are as easily measured as ranked, making RSS methods impractical. However, in some environmental and biological studies, the success probability of a bivariate outcome is related to one …
