0th Order Solutions Of The Wavefunctions For The Quantum Elliptical Box And Microstrip Antenna, Nishtha Tikalal
0th Order Solutions Of The Wavefunctions For The Quantum Elliptical Box And Microstrip Antenna, Nishtha Tikalal
Honors Undergraduate Theses
For a quantum particle confined to a two-dimensional elliptical box or electromagnetic wave in a microstrip antenna, geometrical and boundary condition interplay result in a spectrum of spatial patterns. Due to the asymmetrical nature of the ellipse, we are faced with continuous symmetry reductions, leaving both degenerate and nondegenerate solutions. Here, we present a complete derivation of an analytical solution and visualizations of the fundamental wavefunctions for both Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions respectively corresponding to the quantum elliptical box and the elliptical microstrip antenna.
We demonstrate that the eigenmodes, governed by eccentricity, directly correspond to the modal field distributions …
Entangled Photoelectron Attosecond Spectroscopy, Jonathan Sar-Shalom
Entangled Photoelectron Attosecond Spectroscopy, Jonathan Sar-Shalom
Honors Undergraduate Theses
In this thesis we propose an interferometric scheme to retrieve the dynamics of an electron wave packet emitted from two distinct residual photo-ion channels in the ionization of an atom by an ultra-short UV pulse. EPAS (Entangled-Photoelectron Attosecond Spectroscopy) works by having a non-overlapping UV and few-cycle IR pulse, where the IR is tuned near the transition frequency between two electronic bound states of the photo-ion. Using a time-dependent simulation based on a two-channel atomic model, supported by a perturbative approach, we were able to compute the resulting interference in the angular distribution of the photoelectron and retrieve the energy-dependent …
Observation Of Novel Phases Of Quantum Matter Beyond Topological Insulator, Sabin Regmi
Observation Of Novel Phases Of Quantum Matter Beyond Topological Insulator, Sabin Regmi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
Because of the unique electronic properties, intriguing novel phenomena, and potentiality in quantum device applications, the quantum materials with non-trivial band structures have enticed a bulk of research works over the last two decades. The experimental discovery of the three-dimensional topological insulators (TIs) - bulk insulators with surface conduction via spin-polarized electrons - kicked off the flurry of research interests towards such materials, which resulted in the experimental discovery of new topological phases of matter beyond TIs. The topological semimetallic phase in Dirac, Weyl, and nodal-line semimetals is an example, where the classification depends on the dimensionality, degeneracy, and symmetry …
Observation Of Anisotropic Properties In Topological Quantum Materials, Gyanendra Dhakal
Observation Of Anisotropic Properties In Topological Quantum Materials, Gyanendra Dhakal
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
The discovery of the three-dimensional topological insulator (TI) has enormously impacted our understanding of quantum materials. These novel materials are characterized by the topology rather than some order parameters. The TIs are the materials that exhibit insulating properties in the bulk while possessing the metallic state on the surface. These surface states are protected by time-reversal symmetry; as a result, the electrons featuring surface states are spin-polarized. After the discovery of TIs, other topological semimetallic (TSM) states were discovered, which enhanced the understanding and widened the reach of topological materials. Discoveries of various topological phases such as Dirac, Weyl, nodal …
Methods And Characterization Of Topological And Disordered-Induced Protection Of Coherence In Quantum Systems, Sayandip Dhara
Methods And Characterization Of Topological And Disordered-Induced Protection Of Coherence In Quantum Systems, Sayandip Dhara
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
Quantum computers can efficiently simulate natural processes and solve certain types of mathematical problems. Two of the key issues preventing the development of platforms to realize a scalable quantum machine are the decoherence of the qubits due to the interaction with the environment and the existence of a large overhead to correct errors. Although there already exist noisy intermediate-scale quantum machines, we still need to improve much to be able to solve problems faster than the already existing classical computers. In this dissertation, we explore two approaches to tackle both issues. We propose a scheme where, using quasi-Majorana zero modes …
Photoemission Investigation Of Topological Quantum Materials, Klauss M. Dimitri
Photoemission Investigation Of Topological Quantum Materials, Klauss M. Dimitri
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Topological insulators (TIs) are a class of quantum materials, which behave as insulators in the bulk, yet possess gapless spin-polarized surface states, which are robust against nonmagnetic impurities. The unique properties of TIs make them attractive not only for studying various fundamental phenomena in condensed matter and particle physics, but also as promising candidates for applications ranging from spintronics to quantum computation. Within the topological insulator realm, a great deal of focus has been placed on discovering new quantum materials, however, ideal multi-modal quantum materials have yet to be found. Here we study alpha-PdBi2, KFe2Te2, and DySb compounds including others …
Resonant Anisotropic Emission In Rabbitt Spectroscopy, Bejan M. Ghomashi
Resonant Anisotropic Emission In Rabbitt Spectroscopy, Bejan M. Ghomashi
Honors Undergraduate Theses
A variant of RABBITT pump-probe spectroscopy in which the attosecond pulse train comprises both even and odd harmonics of the fundamental IR probe frequency is explored to measure time-resolved photoelectron emission in systems that exhibit autoionizing states. It is shown that the group delay of both one-photon and two-photon resonant transitions is directly encoded in the energy-resolved photoelectron anisotropy as a function of the pump-probe time-delay. This principle is illustrated for a 1D model with symmetric zero-range potentials that supports both bound states and shape-resonances. The model is studied using both perturbation theory and solving the time-dependent Schodinger equation on …
Mathematical Foundations Of Adaptive Quantum Processing, Daniel Bonior
Mathematical Foundations Of Adaptive Quantum Processing, Daniel Bonior
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Quantum information has the potential to revolutionize the way we store, process, transfer and acquire information [1,14,15,21,37]. In particular, quantum information offers exciting new approaches to secure communication, computation and sensing. However, in order to realize such technologies, we must first understand the effect that environmental noise has on a quantum system. This dissertation builds upon recent studies that have explored the underlying structure of quantum information and the effects of qubit channels in quantum communication protocols. This work is divided into five main chapters, with Chapter 1 being a brief introduction to quantum information. We then begin Chapter 2 …
