Solar Radio Burst Type Ii And Iii With Half Wave Dipole Antenna, Mohd Pauzi Farah Aqilah

Student Works (2020-2029)

An investigation into the physics of solar radio burst type II was done to understand the frequency gap between its fundamental and harmonic emissions that happen as aftershocks of Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). Up until now, the evolution of type II and its associated coronal wave still remain a mystery. Hazardous CME study upholds its fore coming danger to human and technology. This work also addresses the issue of the lack of spatial resolution of previous solar radio burst type II studies. An instrument produced by ETH Zürich namely the Compound Astronomical Low-cost Low-frequency Instrument for Spectroscopy and Transportable Spectrometers …

Characterization Of Reduced Graphene Oxide Anode For Application In Algae Biophotovoltaic Platforms, Siti Aisyah Ibrahim

Student Works (2020-2029)

Research interest in recent times has placed much focus on electrode technology for biophotovoltaics (BPV) especially in algal fuel cells (AFCs) application. The purpose of this investigation is therefore directed towards optimizing reduced graphene oxide (rGO) thin film as an electrode for AFCs application by means of annealing and plasma treatment. First stage involves deposition of six (6) layers of rGO thin film using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method. The anode electrodes were then annealed at different temperatures under vacuum condition. For plasma treatment meanwhile, a variation of voltage was used to vary the plasma conditions resulting in different surface morphology. To …

It has been studied as a tools for wound sterilizations, enhance wound healing, topical treatment of skin diseases caused by bacteria infection and cancer therapy in recent research. The current study aims to investigate the effect of plasma on chronic wound bacteria as a supplementary to wound management particularly for compromised patients. The common practice in wound management is …

Operation Characteristics And Bio Application Of An Atmospheric Dielectric Barrier Discharge., Chee Kin Lai Jul 2011

Operation Characteristics And Bio Application Of An Atmospheric Dielectric Barrier Discharge., Chee Kin Lai

Student Works (2010-2019)

This research project involved the construction of a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) system capable of producing low temperature plasma at atmospheric pressure. The DBD was characterized for the purpose of investigating the effectiveness of low temperature plasma for inactivation of bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis, and Bacillus cereus. The discharge was ignited in the air gap between two parallel copper disc electrodes (3.8cm diameter each) where one of the electrodes was insulated by a dielectric barrier. Glass ( thickness = 2mm) and alumina ( thickness = 1.0mm) were used as the barrier. The DBD was powered by a …

Characterization Of An Inductively Coupled Plasma Produced In Argon At 13.56 Mhz., Lim Ai Nuan Jan 2010

Characterization Of An Inductively Coupled Plasma Produced In Argon At 13.56 Mhz., Lim Ai Nuan

Student Works (2010-2019)

The electrical and plasma characteristics of radio frequency (13.56 MHz) inductively coupled argon plasma (RF ICP) were studied in this project. On the electrical breakdown properties, the breakdown voltage has a general appearance of Paschen’s curve and the minimum is achieved at 0.1 mbar. After ignition, two modes of discharge exist, namely, the E mode at low RF power and H mode at high RF power. Mode transition that occurs is accompanied by abrupt changes in both electrical and plasma characteristics. Hysteresis is observed in the mode transitions and has a minimum at 0.1 mbar. The resistance reflected into the …

Modelling Of Space Charge Effects In The Electrical Discharge Of Nitrogen Gas Laser, Chin Yang Chia Jan 2002

Modelling Of Space Charge Effects In The Electrical Discharge Of Nitrogen Gas Laser, Chin Yang Chia

Student Works (2000-2009)

A computer model for the simulation of a nitrogen gas discharge has been built and studied. This model was based on the fluid description of the discharge plasma. The Phoenical SHASTA Flux-Corrected Transport (FCT) algorithm is used for the solution of the fluid equations and its accuracy has been tested. The distribution of the local electrical field was calculated by the Poisson equation. The internal discharge current was calculated by Sato's equation. The motion of the charge particles was taken into account. The electrical discharge behavior was simulated by the circuit equation and solved using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method …

Diamondlike Carbon Thin Film Deposition Using A Rf Planar Coil Inductively Coupled Plasma System, Wai Soon Liew

Student Works (2000-2009)

A RF planar coil inductively coupled plasma system (ICPs) is setup for this project. The system is powered by a 13.56MHz, 550W, 500 RF generator. The RF power is transferred to the plasma via a planar induction coil. The impedance matching circuit consists of an air-core step-down transformer and a tunable vacuum capacitor. The typical E-H mode transition which is distinctive to the ICP has been observed in argon plasma, hydrogen plasma and hydrogen-methane admixture plasma. The studies carried out include the observation of intensity of light emission from the plasma, the power transferred at different pressures, the concentration of …

Energy Losses Of Solar Neutrinos, Zamri Zainal Abidin Jan 2000

Energy Losses Of Solar Neutrinos, Zamri Zainal Abidin

Student Works (2000-2009)

Using the stopping power of matter. the effects of oscillations on the energy losses of solar neutrinos are investigated. The adiabatic and non-adiabatic survival probabilities of the neutrino oscillations, the mixing angles and Am² are the parameter.; in the calculations. The total energy losses for ⁸B neutrinos with maximum spectral energy of 14.06 MeV is 5 x 10⁻⁷ MeV and is slightly lower than the losses from the non-adiabatic conversion which is ~7 x 10⁻⁷ MeV. From the calculation, we found that the maximum total energy loss for solar neutrinos is of the order 10⁻⁶ MeV. We also include the …
